Is your designer wardrobe insured?
February 22nd, 2010
We all know there’s nothing I love more than a great bargain on a designer dress or a pair of designer shoes.
But up until recently, I never really thought about including the contents of my (admittedly pretty substantial) wardrobe on my insurance policy.
However, according to Defaqto, that’s exactly what fashionistas like me should be considering - figures from the organisation indicate that the average woman’s wardrobe is worth £7,000 - double the amount she thinks it is!
And in the event of an emergency such as a fire or flood, the last thing you would want is to receive a smaller payout from your insurer.
Defaqto says it is important for people whose wardrobes are full of designer goods to take a careful inventory of each item and assign it a replacement value - and if you happen to be the type who has an expensive piece of jewellery or two, it is worth checking if your insurer has a single item limit for valuables.
They’ve definitely given me some food for thought!
If you happen to be one of the lucky ladies who owns a designer handbag, it might be worth having a look at insuring that too - a New Age Traveler Backpack from Louis Vuitton will set you back £26,000, while the Silver Himalayan Birkin Classic owned by Victoria Beckham is thought to be worth a whopping £80,000.
How much do you reckon your wardrobe is worth?
