Dita Von Teese for Moschino

Dita Von Teese for Moschino

Professional temptress Dita Von Teese has spread her fashion wings and collaborated with designer clothing brand Moschino to create a wonderfully stylish eye mask for the label.

With one of the sexiest stars in the world as it’s designer, this sleep essential could prove to be the most glamorous piece of nightwear you’ll own.

Combining this season’s trend of embellishment with cute polka dots, this is sure to be an essential for every glamour puss on the move.

What’s more, all of the proceeds from the sale of this quirky piece will go amFAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research and in my opinion there’s no better feeling than knowing you look absolutely fabulous, while doing your bit for a good cause.

Glamorous Dita also divulged some of her fashion secrets, revealing that Moschino has always been one of her favourite designer clothing brands.

"I love the sense of humour infused into Moschino’s designs and the way that it transcends fads and is always chic. All of my Moschino pieces are treasured, and not one piece ever goes out of style," she told our fellow fashion-followers over at Vogue.

But this is not the first time that the burlesque dancer has tried her hand at design - the star recently created a saucy underwear range for Wonderbra.

Do you think that Dita is a fashion icon?

Underwear trend sparks rise in sales of nipple covers

Underwear trend sparks rise in sales of nipple covers

While this season’s clothing trend of fashioning underwear as outerwear certainly looks eye-catching, we here at Secret Sales HQ have noted that perhaps it isn’t the most practical of styles.

It would seem that many of you followers of fashion out there agree - Selfridges has reported a 20 per cent rise in sales of nude nipple covers, helping fashionistas to stay on trend while your modesty is well and truly protected.

The Daily Mail advises that the department store has now had to increase its orders of the must-have accessory due to the numbers of people who are taking note of celebrities such as Rihanna and Lily Allen who have been spotted in sheer body-style tops.

Helen Attwood, head buyer of lingerie at Selfridges, said: "Our customers are spending upwards of £250 on sheer bodies, which they don’t want to keep hidden under their clothes."

Vogue recently noted that the underwear as outerwear trend can be adopted despite the freezing weather we’re currently experiencing here in the UK.

The publication cited Marc Jacobs’ clever use of lingerie - the designer layered a baby blue silk bra with a dusty pink blouse in his spring/summer 2010 collection.

While I don’t know if I’m quite brave enough to face these chilly winter mornings in just my undies, I certainly will be making an investment in some nipple covers as soon as the sun makes a welcome appearance.

Don’t end up looking like you have four boobs

Don't end up looking like you have four boobs

Earlier in the week, a Which? report revealed that bra fitting services in the UK were inadequate - and we all know what poorly fitting underwear can do to an outfit.

So in order to avoid unsightly lumps and bumps how can we ensure that we are choosing the right size when we shop for undergarments?

We spoke to the programme leader for contour fashion at De Montfort University Gillian Proctor, who gave some great advice to ensure that we are properly supported!

"You should be measured consistently - your size can change within weeks," she said.

"If you want to change the effect you want your bra to create, then in terms of styling your cup size may vary between two or three cup sizes [during the month]," she added.

Gillian explained that your bra does not fit properly if your straps constantly fall down, the back of the bra sits too highly on your back and if the centre of the bra does not sit against your skin.

You don’t want to look like you have four boobs instead of two underneath your top, she continued!

Which? found that of the high street stores that offered a bra fitting service, less than one in three were adequate enough to recommend. It stressed that if your underwear does not fit properly, it can make neck, back and shoulder problems worse.

Have you been disappointed by bra-fitting services?

Men to go all Bridget Jones?

Men to go all Bridget Jones?

Men are creatures of habit are they not? Especially when it comes to underwear.

Have you ever bought a man boxers for Christmas for them to moan that they are not their favourite brand and that they will never switch from their trusted coloured waistband?

Women on the other hand are much more open to experimenting with knickers. Even I have tried out a pair of not so comfortable shapewear pants in my time!

But Marks and Spencer has now announced that is it launching a range of slimming underwear for men. Will it take off?

The high street store will be selling a collection of slimming t-shirts and vests in January, aimed at helping men fight the bulge after the holiday binge.

"I predict that in a few years’ time, shapewear will be as much of an essential in men’s wardrobes as ties and socks," stated head of men’s underwear buying Dave Binns.

Equality all the way I say, but will men actually buy the underwear - and will we see a new generation of male Bridget Jones’?

The corset-type top claims that it can reduce the appearance of a man’s torso by as much as 1.5 inches around the waist.

Ed Hardy was recently criticised by the Miami Herald as one of the worst-dressed celebs of the year. It suggested he should address his beer belly and wear clothes more suited to his age.

Will you be purchasing male shapewear this winter to hide the excesses of Christmas?

How do you do glamour?

How do you do glamour?

What springs to mind when thinking about trying to be glamorous? Designer shoes, beautiful winter coats, decadent lunches and cocktails after work?

Liz Jones, over on the fashion desk at the Daily Mail, has given us girls some tips on how to feel self-indulgent and look the part - but without breaking the bank.

She suggests investing in a designer scarf, such as one from Hermes, that will add a touch of glamour to the plainest and modest of day-time looks and tops.

"Always wear sexy French underwear," she stated, adding: "And only wear stockings, not tights."

Other recommendations were always wearing an expensive fragrance and creating a style for yourself. Feathers can also give a dramatic look and make you feel that little bit special.

But ways to create an air of class don’t always have to be physical, Liz adds. Being polite and always having good manners instantly creates a good impression.

"Put yourself in a glamorous location. Sit in the lobby of Claridge’s by the Dior Christmas tree and people watch," she said, adding that the staff wouldn’t dare ask what you were doing there.

Beauty and technology expert Zara Rabinowicz has predicted that people will be more considered in their purchases next year and will buy fewer things on impulse.

What do you think? Have you any tips for creating an air of glamour on a modest budget?
