Milla Jovovich to design Tommy Hilfiger bag

Milla Jovovich to design Tommy Hilfiger bag

Fifth Element actress and former model Milla Jovovich’s last designer clothing endeavour alongside fellow model Carmen Hawk may have fizzled out before it made much of an impact on the world’s major runways, but that doesn’t mean that the Ukrainian-born star hasn’t got what it takes as a worthy designer. Just ask legendary US designer Tommy Hilfiger.

Apparently the New York-based design icon has enlisted Milla to craft next season’s Tommy Hilfiger Breast Health International bag and according to WWD, the 33-year-old was only too happy to oblige.

The bag in question will not be launched until April next year, but if it’s anything like the 2009 initiative backed by supermodel Helena Christensen, I would wager it is set to be impressive.

For those of you who don’t know, sexy Victoria’s Secret star Helena, 40, was the designer behind that fabulous oversized Mimosa soft leather yellow tote that was launched in Tommy Hilfiger stores back in March.

Commenting on the cause at the time, she said: "Breast cancer affects women of all ages worldwide and I commend Breast Health International and Tommy Hilfiger for stepping up to the mark to find a cure for this disease.

"I am honoured to be chosen as an ambassador of such a worthy cause and initiative."

Her designer handbag was a major success, so here’s hoping Milla follows in her lucky footsteps!

Do you think being a model qualifies someone to design clothes?

Tommy Hilfiger to open flagship store in NYC

We here at Secret Sales HQ may be content with buying all our Tommy Hilfiger designer clothes on this very site, but sometimes getting to see them first hand helps and that’s why I thought the fact that the label has finally announced the opening of its flagship store in New York was quite exciting.

The brand will be joining some of the world’s most revered upscale retailers on New York’s famous Fifth Avenue. After years of opening up shops in major cities around the globe and ignoring Tommy’s hometown, it has finally come to its senses and found the perfect location for the ultimate anchor base.

Commenting on the plans, Tommy himself told Reuters: "I’m very excited to open our global flagship in the city where I first started the company over 20 years ago.

"The Fifth Avenue flagship represents the mix of aspirational yet affordable - the foundation and heritage of our brand philosophy."

By opening up the store in the Big Apple, the big wigs behind Tommy Hilfiger have made a rather tactical move in a bid to further elevate the brand in both the US and internationally.

The idea is that basing the label in New York, it can become more accessible than ever, which is what the essence of the designs themselves is all about - accessible fashion that can be worn by anyone and purchased at reasonable prices.

Would you be keen to visit the store when it opens?
