Packing tips for Christmas

Packing tips for Christmas

I can’t believe that Christmas has crept up on us so quickly! I’m not sure about you but I’ve still plenty of shopping, wrapping and packing that needs to be done before I face the traffic back to my parents’ house on Christmas Eve.

Packing is something that I really don’t enjoy doing. I already have all of my designer clothing laid out to take away for the Christmas period but I’m going to have to cut down on the amount that will end up in my suitcase.

The Calgary Herald has offered some tips for men on what to include and how to look their best over the Christmas week if travelling to visit family and friends.

It cited Jeffery Spivock, public relations senior manager for Toronto Gap, who said: "I always pack neutral staples that I can layer in multiple combinations and still look fresh."

He went on to add that for travelling he would probably wear a velvet blazer as this can be dressed up for a more formal occasion as well as create a stylish look for a casual situation teamed with a pair of designer jeans.

Recently, Ben Sherman announced that it was going to stop selling women’s clothing in order to focus on menswear.

What will your winter wardrobe staple be over the Christmas week?

Men’s fashion - the polo neck returns

Men's fashion - the polo neck returns

This season, the polo neck is set to be a big trend in men’s clothing collections, but there is a fine line between getting the look right or wrong.

Yvan Benbanaste, known for his Italian designer clothing pieces for Pal Zileri, told the Financial Times: "The roll neck is easy to wear but, at the same time, it is so elegant. It almost demands that you act like an aristocrat when wearing it."

Having spent time living in Paris as well as London, I have noticed that the trend is much more popular over on the continent. But there is no need for this as polo neck tops can add instant style to a man’s wardrobe. But, there are a few key things that you must bear in mind if you decide to follow the fashion.

Benabaste recommends teaming the top with a tailored jacket or under a coat. It can be worn casually, it can even extend to evening wear and it is extremely practical in the wintertime.

"Polo necks are 100 per cent cool", affirmed Juls Dawson, a designer who has collaborated with Gio-Goi. He added that men should stay away from chunky knits and ribbed styles and opt for a fine gauge material.

The Irish Independent recently advised fashionistas to get rid of the cardigan, which it called the "wet fish" of the fashion world. It suggested investing in a blazer as an alternative way to cover up during the winter.

Will you be investing in a polo neck this winter?

Skinny jeans and leather jackets dominate the red carpet

Skinny jeans and leather jackets dominate the red carpet

Boots, designer jeans and leather jackets stole the show on the red carpet yesterday at The African Bazaar event presented by Puma.

Edward Norton, star of The Illusionist and Fight Club, wore a brown leather jacket and designer jeans to the Hollywood event, which took place at the famous 5410 Wiltshire Building in Los Angeles.

Lynn Collins from X-Men wore a floaty designer dress with a small blue belt and black suede ankle boots.

However, our favourite outfit of the evening here at Secret Sales was worn by 90210 starlet Jessica Stroup, who looked stunning in skinny jeans, a black top, cropped black jacket and a designer handbag clutch.

The 24-year-old, who plays Silver in 90210 and starred in The Hills Have Eyes, is no stranger to designer clothing and began modelling when she was just 15.

She was recently spotted at the launch of Jason Wu’s spring/summer 2010 collection for Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills alongside Diane Kruger and Lily Collins. She wore a short cocktail dress designed by Wu.

You may have heard of the 27-year-old designer after Michelle Obama wore one of his dresses to the inaugural ball.

What do you think of Jessica’s outfit from last night?

Beauty at Burberry?

Beauty at Burberry?

Iconic British fashion brand Burberry is one of my favourites when it comes to designer clothes. After all, I am a London girl!

There’s just something classic about a good-quality designer Burberry trench coat - they never go out of style. And Emma Watson looks just gorgeous in their autumn adverts!

Lucky for long-time Burberry fans like me, it looks as though the fashion house is planning to ring in the new year by releasing a number of new goodies. Burberry has a cosmetics and beauty range in the pipeline, according to the New York Times, which reports that the brand is in talks with a licensing range.

I can’t wait to try out the designer makeup - insiders are predicting the new line will launch in July 2010 and will feature more than 100 products for skin, lips and eyes.

The brand is also set to expand its men’s clothing range with plenty of new accessories, the American newspaper reported, including lots of scarves and bags. We here at Secret Sales think these might make great gift options for brothers, boyfriends and even stylish dads - we love the guys in our lives to look as great as we do!

Are you as excited as I am for the new offerings from Burberry?
