Designer handbags ‘a good investment’

Designer handbags 'a good investment'

Well my fellow followers of fashion, if you ever needed an excuse to splash the cash on a designer handbag, I think I’ve finally found it.

Belinda White, acting editor and fashion director at handbag.com, says that if you decide to purchase a designer handbag, you can actually regard it as an investment.

I couldn’t agree more, Belinda.

"A designer handbag can be an attainable treat to save for, something which can last for years and be passed down," she states.

If my mum had the mindset of Belinda then I could now be the proud owner of a veritable collection of vintage hand-me-downs.

What’s more, she suggests that if you’re struggling to give a run of the mill outfit the necessary va va voom, a designer handbag can do the trick nicely.

"They’re the finishing touch that can make an otherwise unspectacular and perhaps not so expensive outfit really shine," she comments.

It may interest you to know that we Brits seem to be a nation of handbag obsessives - a recent survery from OnePoll revealed that the average woman in the UK will spend a total of £4,000 on bags during the course of her lifetime, owning up to 17 at any one time.

Oops, I’m pretty sure that I’ve already well-exceeded my £4,000 lifetime allowance.

How many designer handbags do you own?

Lara Stone reveals her wedding dress designer

Lara Stone reveals her wedding dress designer

Brides-to-be will know that selecting your dress has to be the most important part of your wedding day - after all, that’s what everyone’s going to be looking at, right?

And if you’re lucky enough to be a supermodel marrying one of Britain’s funniest men then the eyes of the fashion world will most certainly be watching out to see if you picked the right designer dress.

But it would seem that Lara Stone - aka the future Mrs David Walliams - has got off to a great start by picking Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci to design what could be the most important dress she’ll ever wear.

She made the revelation in Interview magazine, after appearing on its cover in an S&M themed shoot.

It could be that this is a bit of a thank you as Riccardo Tisci gave the model her first big break, casting the relatively unknown Lara in his Givenchy Couture show.

Since then, designer clothing brands far and wide - such as Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Prada, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Fendi - have featured the blonde in their catwalk shows.

Meanwhile, gossip kings and queens over at the Sun have reported that Lara and David are set to marry at the swanky Claridge’s hotel in Mayfair this May.

I’ll be eagerly awaiting my invite then . . .

Who do you wish could design your wedding dress?

Layering takes centre stage at New York Fashion Week

Layering takes centre stage at New York Fashion Week

Having a clothing dilemma is one of the most frustrating things that fashionistas such as ourselves can encounter.

So if you’re not sure what to wear this season, why not wear it all at once?

Reports are flooding in from my fashion colleagues across the pond, who are all noting that layering looks set to be a key trend for the coming season.

Designers such as Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Rodarte have all showcased layered clothing in their New York Fashion Week shows.

At Rodarte, chunky knits and cosy scarves were paired with cute chiffon and delicate lace, with contrasting fabrics draped and layered over each other.

Similarly, Samantha Critchell at the Associated Press said that Secret Sales favourite Alexander Wang took the layering trend to such a level that his models "looked like they’d thrown on everything in the closet all at once".

Marc by Marc Jacobs featured oversized wool numbers, clinched in at the waist, with a multitude of 90s grunge and military references.

I think this layering trend could prove to be very useful - I often feel like I’ve got so much designer clothing that I want to wear it all at once and at last, fashion rules allow me to.

Sit tight fashionistas, we don’t have to wait long for our dose of the latest designer clothing offerings - London Fashion Week kicks off on Friday (February 19th).

Who will you be keeping a close eye on this Fashion Week?

2010 - The Year of the Trainer?

2010 - The Year of the Trainer?

Most of you already know my feelings on trainers - I’m more of a stilettos girl - but the world of fashion seems intent on swaying my opinions this year.

In the wake of the announcement that Jimmy Choo is set to launch an upscale collection of hi-tops later this year, the Guardian has reported that Harvey Nichols has launched a new trainer wall for men and women, featuring designer shoes from the likes of Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chloe.

Tommy Hilfiger has jumped on the trainer trend as well, with a new sneaker collaboration between the designer and the Keith Haring Foundation available from April.

And if that wasn’t enough to rot your socks (ha!), the fashionistas on the streets of Paris have been spotted out and about in the Rue Saint-Honore district wearing colourful old-school trainers, the cast of Glee performs numbers in hi-tops and stylish singer Rihanna has been snapped in a pair of Nikes.

What is the fashion world coming to?

As far as comfortable footwear is concerned, I think I prefer Jimmy Choo’s recent collaboration with Ugg Australia to the current trainer trend.

Do you plan to swap your stilettos for sneakers?

Marc Jacobs clothing causes a stir at New York Fashion Week

Marc Jacobs clothing causes a stir at New York Fashion Week

I am still green with envy at those lucky people who are getting to see the designer clothing delights that New York Fashion Week has to offer.

While I am still sitting tight in the capital city eagerly awaiting the start of London Fashion Week on Friday (February 19th), reports are flooding in about what’s happening across the pond in the Big Apple.

And it would appear that Secret Sales favourite Marc Jacobs has caused quite a stir at New York Fashion Week.

Fellow fashionistas over at the Los Angeles Times have praised his catwalk show that took place yesterday (February 15th), with fashion critic Booth Moore saying that the designer clothing collection included "just about everything a woman would ever want to wear".

Booth praised a "fairytale glitter-flecked" clear vinyl raincoat and added that offerings such as the double-breasted pantsuit and knife-pleated maxi skirt were "superbly cut".

While sharp tailoring and fairytale glamour are relatively new trends and perhaps not for every style-savvy shopper out there, it could be that the pretty pastel and nude shades showcased in the new Marc Jacobs collection are more to your taste.

Eliza Scarborough over at the Daily Mail recently advised that neutral shades are set to be one of this season’s biggest trends and one of the most flattering looks for women of any age.

Do you love Marc Jacobs as much as we do?
