Alexander McQueen wins prestigious fashion award

Alexander McQueen wins prestigious fashion award

There is no doubt that since the wonderful Alexander McQueen passed away last month, there has been a huge void left in the designer clothing world.

But it’s good to see that his memory lives on, as he has now been awarded with a prestigious fashion accolade at the Brit Insurance Design Awards for his spring/summer 2010 collection.

And Paula Reed, judge and style editor over at Grazia magazine, says that the iconic clothing designer was a "clear winner".

"[He] had been working for years on developing fabrics that could blend the hard into soft and had pretty much come close to achieving that in this collection. The impressiveness simply compounds the enormity of his loss," states Paula.

She goes on to add that the award has not been given to McQueen purely on a sentimental basis and says that the video presentation of his last designer clothing showcase is "compelling".

It would seem that fashionistas the world over are still keen to add pieces of Alexander McQueen clothing to their collections - a dress by the designer, modelled by Kate Moss, was recently purchased at auction by Topshop boss Phillip Green for a staggering £100,000.

Do you think Alexander McQueen deserves this accolade?

Nicola Roberts dismisses rumours of clothing line

Nicola Roberts dismisses rumours of clothing line

While it would appear that most celebrities would jump at the chance to create a designer clothing line, one high-profile star has said that she is just too busy.

The rumour mill has been going into overdrive that fashionista Nicola Roberts is set to design a clothing collection but it just shows that you shouldn’t believe everything you hear.

She told Closer magazine: "There’s talk that I’m reinventing myself as a fashion designer but I’m too busy with my make-up to do anything else at the moment."

While I’m sure many pale-skinned lovelies will be devastated at the news that the Girls Aloud singer is not going to be joining the likes of other celebrities-turned-designers Alexa Chung and Kate Moss anytime soon, they can still look to the star for a spot of fashion inspiration.

Nicola is a massive fan of Chanel, so anyone trying to emulate her chic look would be wise to snap up a few key pieces from the iconic French designer.

Similarly, vintage designer dresses in kooky retro prints seem to go down well with Nicola, who in my opinion is absolute heads and shoulders above the rest of Girls Aloud in terms of the style stakes.

Do you think Nicola should try her hand at clothing design?

The stars turn out for a fashion hero

The stars turn out for a fashion hero

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney were just some of the stars who turned out to pay their respects to iconic clothing designer Alexander McQueen at his funeral on Thursday (February 25th).

Since it emerged that the designer had taken his life, tributes for the star have been flooding in from all across the globe and yesterday was the last chance for friends, family and fellow celebrities to say goodbye to this fashion legend.

Several members of the McQueen party arrived at the ceremony wearing the iconic family tartan, which was featured in the designer’s Highland Rape show back in 2006.

And despite the sombre occasion, celebrity fashionistas made sure they turned out to the ceremony sporting the latest trends.

Kate Moss opted for a black fur stole and Louboutin heels, while Naomi Campbell showcased the shoulder pad trend, paired with a flamboyant black hat and gloves.

Stella McCartney chose a cropped black jacket with straight leg jeans and boots.

It is thought that a memorial service for the iconic designer will take place later in the year.

However, this is yet to be confirmed by the label’s spokesman, who said that they are currently concentrating on the upcoming March 9th show at Paris Fashion Week, which is set to remember McQueen’s life through his fashion.

Kate Moss’ Alexander McQueen dress sells for £100,000

Kate Moss' Alexander McQueen dress sells for £100,000

A designer dress by the late Alexander McQueen, modelled by fashion favourite Kate Moss, has sold at auction for £100,000.

High street clothing mogul Phillip Green purchased the dress that Kate modelled at last night’s (February 18th) Fashion for Relief show, which was put on by Naomi Campbell as a fundraising event for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

And while we here at Secret Sales HQ knew that such a high-profile show for such a worthwhile cause would have no trouble attracting the hottest celebrities, little did we know that it would signal Kate’s return to the catwalk.

The model proudly showcased the striking printed mini-dress, which was part of the late designer’s spring/summer 2010 collection - but when the designer dress went under the hammer, she appeared to be overcome with emotion.

As Topshop boss Phillip Green made the winning bid, Kate - who was a close friend of the late Alexander McQueen - broke down in floods of tears.

Last week, in a tribute to the designer, the supermodel’s spokesperson released a statement saying: "Kate is shocked and devastated at the tragic loss of her dear friend Lee McQueen. Her thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

But the clothing designer’s efforts contributed towards the event raising a massive £1.4 million for victims of the Haitian disaster - well done Naomi!

Kate Moss’ fashion career inspires exhibition

Kate Moss' fashion career inspires exhibition

Not only is Kate Moss a woman who seems to look good in absolutely everything but she also has an eye for picking out sensational combinations.

From modelling to designing best-selling clothing ranges for Topshop and designer handbags for Longchamp, it seems that everything she touches turns to gold.

That’s why I am not surprised to report that the model is to be honoured for her contributions to the fashion world with an exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.

Kate chatted to Harper’s Bazaar magazine about the moment when she found out that she was the designer of choice for the museum.

"I just didn’t believe it," she said.

"So they took me to see it and then I realised it was major! All these red flags on the Rue de Rivoli with my name on them right by the Louvre."

The exhibition, which will document the model’s 20-year career at the top of the fashion industry, will be on display at the museum from 2011 onwards.

But it could be that in the future Kate is not the only clothing designer in the Moss household - she recently revealed to the International Herald Tribune that her adorable daughter Lila Grace has her sights set on a career in the fashion industry.

"Lila’s got her ideas too - she’s got really good taste. She wants to do her own collection!" she said.

Here at Secret Sales HQ we will certainly be making a mad dash to Paris as soon as the exhibition launches - will you be joining us?
