2010 - The Year of the Trainer?

2010 - The Year of the Trainer?

Most of you already know my feelings on trainers - I’m more of a stilettos girl - but the world of fashion seems intent on swaying my opinions this year.

In the wake of the announcement that Jimmy Choo is set to launch an upscale collection of hi-tops later this year, the Guardian has reported that Harvey Nichols has launched a new trainer wall for men and women, featuring designer shoes from the likes of Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chloe.

Tommy Hilfiger has jumped on the trainer trend as well, with a new sneaker collaboration between the designer and the Keith Haring Foundation available from April.

And if that wasn’t enough to rot your socks (ha!), the fashionistas on the streets of Paris have been spotted out and about in the Rue Saint-Honore district wearing colourful old-school trainers, the cast of Glee performs numbers in hi-tops and stylish singer Rihanna has been snapped in a pair of Nikes.

What is the fashion world coming to?

As far as comfortable footwear is concerned, I think I prefer Jimmy Choo’s recent collaboration with Ugg Australia to the current trainer trend.

Do you plan to swap your stilettos for sneakers?

Jimmy Choo eyes sporty fashionistas with new designer shoes

Jimmy Choo eyes sporty fashionistas with new designer shoes

As you all know, I am perhaps not the biggest lover of trainers that the world has ever seen and while I wish I was one of those sporty types, I think it’s time to face up to the fact that trawling around the shops each weekend is the closest I get to physical activity.

But a new designer shoe range from the king of collaborators Jimmy Choo could certainly be enough for us here at Secret Sales to swap our stilettos for a sportier model.

Grazia reports that the designer is set to launch a range of trainers, embracing the current trend for all things nineties.

The publication suggests teaming the high-end high-tops with a playsuit or mini dungarees to maintain a feminine but on-trend look.

I have to say that I am loving the fact that the brand is branching out from its traditional bejewelled footwear delights.

Last year Jimmy Choo collaborated with iconic British brand Hunter to design fabulous crocodile print wellies, which certainly make looking stylish in the rain and while at festivals a much easier job.

And more recently the brand joined forces with Ugg in order to bring fabulous footwear to those of us who want comfort, without relinquishing anything in the style stakes.

Tamara Mellon, president and founder of Jimmy Choo, said: "Other than Jimmy Choo, Ugg Australia is the only other footwear I have in my wardrobe."

Would you wear Jimmy Choo trainers?

Designer shoes ’stood out’ in 2009

Designer shoes 'stood out' in 2009

The comeback of designer heels has recently been hailed by Canadian writer Miranda Furtado as one of the best fashion moments of the past year - and I couldn’t agree more!

I particularly liked the H&M/Jimmy Choo collaboration, which saw designer shoes hit the high street at bargain prices!

This was a big hit with Canwest News writer Miranda as well - she said that the collection was one of the best designer/store collaborations of the year, along with Kate Moss’ line at Topshop.

She also wrote that she was thrilled to bid the dancewear trend farewell and put her ballet flats on the shelf in favour of "fun, sexy, sky-high heels". And over-the-knee boots are a great look with any outfit, she added, noting that they can give seasonal party dresses a bit of extra oomph.

Speaking of parties, this brings me to my latest fashion dilemma - designer shoes or boots on New Year’s Eve?

I’ll be ringing in the new year in style - wearing a grey and silver-sequinned minidress - but I can’t decide whether to pair it with my faithful Jimmy Choos or an exciting new pair of over-the-knee boots from Santa!

What do you think is the most stylish way to welcome 2010?

Combining a hospital trip with a designer shoe sale

Combining a hospital trip with a designer shoe sale

I love a new pair of designer shoes as much as the next woman … but perhaps not as much as Hannah Sandling, who wrote about her footwear obsession in the Daily Mail this week (December 16th).

There are many things that Hannah and some of us here at Secret Sales HQ have in common. For example, we’d all try and save our Jimmy Choo shoes should our homes catch alight and we both agree that by changing your footwear you an transform your mood.

However, as I have said before, there are some things I won’t do in pursuit of a designer clothing deal.

Footwear-lover Hannah admitted that she once went to the Jimmy Choo sale with her leg in plaster after a rock-climbing accident and bought five pairs of the designer shoes after a visit to the hospital.

She has even said that she plans on visiting a shoe sale after having a procedure at the dentist - whether she is woozy or not!

Hannah believes she has around 700 pairs of shoes, which is enough to make tens of people jealous all at once. Although footwear is one of my favourite designer clothing purchases, can enough be enough sometimes? There is such thing as being greedy!

A new survey, carried out by tszuji.co.uk, found that many women remember their first pair of shoes over their first kiss.

What lengths would you go to to attend a designer clothing sale?

Camping out for Jimmy Choo?

Camping out for Jimmy Choo?

Were you one of the people camping out outside H&M this weekend? As you know by now I am a huge fan of designer shoes - and love to find a bargain - but I saw people queuing outside the store as early as Friday evening!

There were 19 stores in the UK and Ireland that put the Jimmy Choo collection on sale and sources tell me that people were flocking to get their hands on the zebra-print sandals and leather boots by the British-based designer up and down the country.

I went down to get my hands on some of the brand’s designer bags and women’s clothing - and was able to get into the store without having to turn up early and brave the cold.

Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Karl Largerfeld have all had collections for the high street store and I think it’s great that they make designer clothing more accessible.

However, we at Secret Sales just love getting our hands on the real thing and splashing out on designer shoes, clutch bags, underwear and straight leg jeans.

Are you a fan of high street and designer collaborations, or do you have a weak spot for designer clothing?
