Gucci film could hit screens 'by early 2011'

We love it here at Secret Sales when fashion and designer clothing goes to the movies and we were thrilled to hear via Vogue this week (November 18th) that the much-gossiped about Gucci film will be the next big project on director Ridley Scott’s agenda.

If you are a fan of the fashion house, then you may be familiar with its turbulent family history. And the biopic - which has been confirmed for early 2011 if all goes to plan - is set to be a thriller.

Scott told Vogue that the film would be about how the family’s story evolved and he wanted to "get the script absolutely right".

He added that it was too soon to confirm who will play the lead roles of Maurizio Gucci and his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, but that hasn’t stopped rumours suggesting that it could be Leonardo diCaprio and Angelina Jolie.

Gucci’s origins began in 1921 in Florence when a luxury leather goods and luggage store was opened by Guccio Gucci.

It wasn’t until 1982 that Guccio’s grandson Maurizio took the reins of what was then a company with a lot of financial troubles and the family had become famous for its public quarrels.

The company was sold in 1993 and Maurizio was shot and killed in Milan two years later. His former wife Patrizia was convicted for ordering his killing and is serving a 29-year prison sentence.

Who do you think would be the perfect leading lady for this role?

Inside Sinitta’s wardrobe

Inside Sinitta's wardrobe

From Furla to Gucci and Rock and Republic, 1980s pop star Sinitta sure has one impressively stocked designer clothes wardrobe.

Despite rising to fame during the decade that many believe style forgot, this chic fashionista has emerged in the 21st century as one seriously well-dressed lady.

Now in her 40s, I think she looks better than ever - and no it’s not because she has said goodbye to that god awful perm and fluorescent lycra fetish!

Rather, she simply knows what suits her body and what looks she can get away with by appearing both age-appropriate and trendy at the same time.

She told the Daily Mail that among her wardrobe full of 500 pairs of shoes and countless designer dresses, is her fabulous collection of bags, her favourite item of which is - interestingly enough - a men’s bag.

"I head to the men’s section of Italian brand Furla. I do love my Furla men’s red croc bag because it can carry everything a mum of young kids needs, plus it’s sleek and has clean lines," she explained.

That is certainly something I admit to doing - mainly because I’m such a fan of super-big bags. Not only is opting for men’s accessories perfectly sensible depending on what you’re after, it also almost always guarantees that you’ll have a fashion item that other girls out there don’t!

Do you rate Sinitta as a style queen?

Gucci family says no to movie biopic

Gucci family says no to movie biopic

You may remember last week we were talking about Ridley Scott planning to make a biopic of the Gucci family in which he claimed he would love to cast Hollywood heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie.

Well, it turns out that the fashionable family in question is "up in arms" about the planned project, claiming that they have not given the go-ahead for even pre-production to take place.

In case you don’t know the ins and outs of the story that Blade Runner director Scott wishes to portray, trust me, it’s a harrowing one.

In a nutshell, Scott recently claimed that he wanted Changeling star Jolie to portray Patrizia Raggiani, the ex-wife of Gucci mogul Maurizio Gucci who arranged to have him murdered by a hitman back in the 1980s, while Titanic legend DiCaprio would play the victim.

But, according to the family, they have not yet authorised the movie purely because they believe that they have been through enough and don’t need to see their upsetting history on the big screen.

Patrizia Gucci, the late Maurizio’s cousin, told Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera: "We have been through horrible things and paid plenty in person. I will write a book about the Guccis to say who they really are.

"And I will give Scott a copy, in hopes that his movie will never be released."

Considering how successful Scott is in the movie industry, he strikes me as the kind of guy who always gets what he wants, so watch this space for future developments.

In the meantime, to get your fix of Gucci designer clothes, have a look at what we here at Secret Sales HQ have on offer!

Would you like to see the production of this movie go ahead?

Charlize Theron - a red carpet pro

Charlize Theron - a red carpet pro

I don’t think anyone could forget that stunning gold sparkling and slinky Gucci gown worn by actress Charlize Theron when she scooped the Academy Award for her outstanding performance in Monster back in 2004. She made fashion history in that amazing designer dress as one of the most stylish and elegant numbers to be worn to the Oscars.

So, it should come as no surprise that now, five years later on, the 34-year-old Hollywood heavyweight is still making waves on the red carpet with her style choices.

She attended the 13th Hollywood Awards Gala during Hollywood Film Festival this week in a completely knockout dress.

The little strapless black lower thigh-skimming number not only accentuated the former South African model’s perfect hourglass figure to perfection, but it also proved that she can do demure sophistication and still look jaw droppingly sexy.

If you look closely, the dress seems to be spilt in two tones - matte and shiny - which shows that the star really has her finger on the pulse when it comes to what’s hot in fashion right now - black leather.

But what struck me most about this look was Charlize’s cunning accessorising. She donned a fabulous pair of designer shoes - crimson-red platforms with crystal-encrusted toe caps - along with a well-coordinated deep scarlet clutch bag.

Being the fashion pro that she is, Charlize was aware that was enough and so decided against wearing any jewellery, leaving her neck, ears and wrists bare. Beautiful.

What do you think about this look?

New Gucci app created for iTouch

New Gucci app created for iTouch

Earlier this week we found out that there could be a movie about the murder of fashion empire head honcho Maurizio Gucci in the pipeline with Gladiator director Ridley Scott at the helm. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, it turns out he wants Hollywood heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie to assume the lead roles.

Well, while Gucci’s past could be rehashed in a potential cinematic masterpiece, operations within the fashion empire here and now today are just as enthralling.

Apparently the label’s super-cool creative director Frida Giannini has teamed up with music maestro Mark Ronson to create none other than a special Gucci app for the iPod and iTouch.

Fashion could literally be at your fingertips with this venture, which is currently in the pipeline and is set to include everything from Gucci runway shows and exclusive designer clothing products to unique music playlists crafted by producer Ronson.

According to my spies at Marie Claire, the launch of the app will coincide with the travelling Gucci trainers store that opens on October 24th - Gucci Icon - Temporary Project - and journeys from New York to London and Tokyo.

Just when you think those technical wizards can’t come up with another app for your iTouch, they go and create something as innovative as this.

I for one am looking forward to its launch, but what about you?
