Restaurants 'demand evening wear'

Evening wear is back with a vengeance so swap your straight leg jeans for a designer dress this weekend.

Mimi Spencer, fashion expert, told the Telegraph that jeans, a dressy top and high heels no longer cuts it when heading out for a special occasion.

"Over the past couple of years that’s begun to look really tired and lazy, even [gulp] old-fashioned," she said.

However, Alice Hart-Davies, on the publication’s fashion desk kindly reminds us that there is a fine line between looking dressed up and being overdressed!

For Mimi, a date in a nice restaurant would require you to make sure you do your hair and makeup, wear "wicked" shoes, and a stunning designer dress.

She added that there are so many amazing eveningwear collections out there by young designers that if you don’t dress up, when would you ever get chance to wear them?

Ms Hart-Davies noted that Victoria Beckham, Scarlett Johansson, Jenson Button and George Clooney all knew how to get it right.

Here at Secret Sales HQ we love an opportunity to get dressed up, but we’re not quite ready to give up our straight leg jeans just yet.

According to Elle magazine, Victoria Beckham could be launching a new denim range by as early as the start of next year.

So what do you think? Are jeans out and dresses in?

Vogue: Why go trad when you can dazzle in rad?

Why go trad when you can dazzle in rad?

Christmas party fashion and evening wear is all about dresses, showing some leg and shoulder pads.

This is the view of Emma Elwick over at British Vogue, whose festive fashion motto is: "Why go trad when you can dazzle in rad?"

She looked to the catwalk and designer clothing for her inspiration and noted the large pearls, ribbons, bows and puffed-out skirts in the Marc Jacobs collection for Louis Vuitton.

Jumpsuits, lace and bows made an appearance on Stella McCartney’s runway and other designers have showcased minidresses and crystal-embellished glamour.

However, it was Versace that got her vote on the designer dresses front for the most "irresistibly sexy" party pieces.

"It’s ’80s opulence but be sure to wear with messy dressy hair and confident insouciance," she adds, to rise above the doom and gloom of the recession with a smile on your face.

Over at the Sun, Laura Naylor explained that we are going to see a lot of metallic makeup this Christmas and Burberry, Mac and Gucci opted for gold at the fashion shows this season.

She recommended white gold with plenty of black mascara and dark eyes, adding dark skin tones often suit more coppery colours.

Please let us know at Secret Sales HQ what you plan on wearing to your office party this year.
