Victoria Beckham launches ’40s-style collection in NYC

Victoria Beckham launches '40s-style collection in NYC

Love her or hate her, you can’t deny that Victoria Beckham is gaining an increasingly strong influence in the fashion world.

According to the Daily Mail, her latest collection of designer dresses made its debut during the past weekend at an event so exclusive that only two dozen people were in attendance.

The fourth collection from the woman formerly known as Posh Spice was inspired by late choreographer and dancer Martha Graham, as well as classic comic book character Dick Tracy.

Models strutted down the catwalk sporting sunglasses from Victoria’s DVB label and each dress was paired with co-ordinating skyscraper heels for the full Beckham look.

"I feel the clothes express how my own personal style has evolved, more relaxed, a little more slouchy, but still structured," she commented.

The Daily Mail noted that the Hollywood A-list is likely to love the latest red carpet-friendly designs - and we here at Secret Sales HQ are inclined to agree.

I’m particularly keen on a classy belted knee-length number in teal - Hollywood glamour galore!

What do you think of the latest styles from our favourite British girl in LA?

Victoria Beckham - I express myself through fashion

Victoria Beckham - I express myself through fashion

Victoria Beckham has revealed that just like us over here at Secret Sales HQ, one of the best ways that she feels she can express herself is through clothing and fashion.

We couldn’t agree more, Posh!

In the March US edition of Glamour magazine, the fashionista explains that she loves designer clothing: "I love fashion, and that’s how I express myself."

She continues: "I think about [what I’m going to wear] before I go to bed at night."

Down-to-earth Victoria also admits that while she’s "no supermodel", she likes to make the best of the assets that she has by dressing in designer clothing and doing her hair and makeup in a certain way.

Here at Secret Sales, we recently reported that the designer shoe-lover was spotted wearing skyscraper heels at LAX Airport in Los Angeles, despite having been warned by doctors that her painful bunions will only get worse.

"No pain, no gain … I don’t mind. I will suffer," she says.

I suppose that looking as fabulous as Victoria does have its drawbacks then.

One way that the mum-of-three is able to express herself is through her own designer jeans collection - dVb Jeans, which I personally absolutely adore for low-maintenance but high-fashion days.

Ditch the heels, Victoria Beckham

Ditch the heels, Victoria Beckham

As you all know, I love skyscraper heels just as much - if not more - than the next girl but if I were suffering from painful bunions then I would probably give them a rest for a little while.

Despite being advised by medical professionals to lay off the designer heels, Victoria Beckham still insists on teetering around in stilts, it would appear.

The Daily Mail states that the star was forced to remove her designer shoes while passing through security at LAX Airport in Los Angeles.

In doing so, the usually immaculately-dressed mother-of-three revealed huge holes in her tights, which in turn helped eagle-eyed fashion followers to spot a large bunion on her left foot at the base of her big toe.

Victoria has already reportedly been told that she needs to undergo a bunionectomy, where a surgeon would have to cut into the toe joint and re-align the bones with screws.

Ouch!

But having this procedure would mean that the star would be forced out of her trademark heels for weeks, or even months, on end.

We here at Secret Sales HQ are absolutely loving new Jimmy Choo footwear, which is perfect for fashion-followers who want to be comfy but still look gorgeous.

The brand has collaborated with Hunter wellies and Ugg Australia, as well as recently revealing a new line of trainers that are perfect for foot-friendly fashionistas.

Do you think Victoria should give her poor tootsies a rest?

Unflattering or fab? Kitten heels are back

Unflattering or fab? Kitten heels are back

You may have read in the glossy magazines or reports from the fashion weeks that kitten heels are back. Writers have hailed the return of the more practical designer shoes - but are we really fans of the in-between heel?

Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Christian Laboutin, Missoni, Prada and Louis Vuitton have all unveiled designer shoes that are a little more "everyday" than the stilettos we’ve been seeing so much of. But I don’t know about you, but I’ve never found mid-height heels to be entirely flattering.

When comfortable shoes are called for, or when lots of walking is involved, there are plenty of attractive ballet pumps, flats and boots. I am in love with my newest pair of designer black, heeled ankle boots!

Then, for the times that super-sexy heels are called for, then a little bit of height can make all the difference.

Kitten heels are not necessarily that much more practical than high heels.

It seems that Naomi Attwood at Grazia shares my views. She said: "You can’t run for a bus in them and they’ll pinch your toes. Crucially, they don’t give you that leggy look, and they’re not exactly flattering to your calves/ankles."

Even the fashion desk at the Independent can’t make their minds up. "Fabulous or frumpy" they asked.

So what do you think, should we give kitten heels the benefit of the doubt?

Designer shoes ’stood out’ in 2009

Designer shoes 'stood out' in 2009

The comeback of designer heels has recently been hailed by Canadian writer Miranda Furtado as one of the best fashion moments of the past year - and I couldn’t agree more!

I particularly liked the H&M/Jimmy Choo collaboration, which saw designer shoes hit the high street at bargain prices!

This was a big hit with Canwest News writer Miranda as well - she said that the collection was one of the best designer/store collaborations of the year, along with Kate Moss’ line at Topshop.

She also wrote that she was thrilled to bid the dancewear trend farewell and put her ballet flats on the shelf in favour of "fun, sexy, sky-high heels". And over-the-knee boots are a great look with any outfit, she added, noting that they can give seasonal party dresses a bit of extra oomph.

Speaking of parties, this brings me to my latest fashion dilemma - designer shoes or boots on New Year’s Eve?

I’ll be ringing in the new year in style - wearing a grey and silver-sequinned minidress - but I can’t decide whether to pair it with my faithful Jimmy Choos or an exciting new pair of over-the-knee boots from Santa!

What do you think is the most stylish way to welcome 2010?
