Is your designer wardrobe insured?

Is your designer wardrobe insured?

We all know there’s nothing I love more than a great bargain on a designer dress or a pair of designer shoes.

But up until recently, I never really thought about including the contents of my (admittedly pretty substantial) wardrobe on my insurance policy.

However, according to Defaqto, that’s exactly what fashionistas like me should be considering - figures from the organisation indicate that the average woman’s wardrobe is worth £7,000 - double the amount she thinks it is!

And in the event of an emergency such as a fire or flood, the last thing you would want is to receive a smaller payout from your insurer.

Defaqto says it is important for people whose wardrobes are full of designer goods to take a careful inventory of each item and assign it a replacement value - and if you happen to be the type who has an expensive piece of jewellery or two, it is worth checking if your insurer has a single item limit for valuables.

They’ve definitely given me some food for thought!

If you happen to be one of the lucky ladies who owns a designer handbag, it might be worth having a look at insuring that too - a New Age Traveler Backpack from Louis Vuitton will set you back £26,000, while the Silver Himalayan Birkin Classic owned by Victoria Beckham is thought to be worth a whopping £80,000.

How much do you reckon your wardrobe is worth?

What would you do for Cheryl Cole’s designer wardrobe?

What would you do for Cheryl Cole's designer wardrobe?

We here at Secret Sales HQ have to salute the wonderful Cheryl Cole for her designer clothing choices.

It seems that even in troubled times the star manages to look fabulous and maintain an air of dignity.

And while we are well aware that many of you fashionistas out there love Cheryl and would do anything to emulate her look, we weren’t aware of the extreme lengths that some of you would go to in order to get your hands on her vast clothing collection.

In a recent survey by My Celebrity Fashion a whopping 34 per cent of women questioned admitted that they would happily swap their man for the Girls Aloud star’s wardrobe.

Lady Gaga also proved to be a popular fashion icon with 20 per cent saying that they would happily trade in their bloke for some of the singer’s quirky ensembles.

Kate Moss, Dannii Minogue and Victoria Beckham also featured in the top five, while Fearne Cotton was the least popular celebrity in the style stakes.

And it would appear that Cheryl is sparking yet another clothing trend - the Sun reports that t-shirts that read Team Cheryl - Don’t Fight For His Love went on sale on Wednesday (February 17th) and are currently outselling those supporting her naughty hubby Ashley by 92 per cent.

Are you in Team Cheryl?

Oh dear, Pammy!

Oh dear, Pammy!

When I say fashion icon, who is it that springs to mind?

"Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Nicole Richie," I hear you cry! Well, certainly not ex-Playboy bunny Pamela Anderson anyway.

But our Pammy did her very best in attempting to design a clothing range - alongside designer pal Ritchie Rich - and for that, we here at Secret Sales HQ raise our fabulous designer hats to her but my oh my, what an astronomical flop the launch of her new range turned out to be.

Just 20 people turned up to see the designs of the star’s A*Muse line be showcased for the first time at chic Miami nightclub, Play.

Despite her, best assets (ahem) being on full display for all to see in an asymmetrical hemmed black mini-dress, the former Baywatch actress still failed to pull in the crowds.

In light of the dismal turnout, it would seem that comments Pammy recently made to Marie Claire magazine ring particularly true.

"I’ve had lots of things that didn’t work out, like TV shows. You learn a lot through mistakes," she said.

Let’s just hope she learns something from this then!

Celebrity collaborations with well-known clothing designers that will hopefully turn out to be a tad more successful then the buxom blonde’s attempts include Kate Moss for Longchamp, Emma Watson for People Tree and Alexa Chung for Madewell.

Would you buy anything designed by Pamela Anderson?

Caught shopping online at work?

Caught shopping online at work?

Obviously, here at Secret Sales we love online fashion sales. Shopping for designer clothing on the web is something that we are very good at as an office! You only need to take a walk around the room at lunchtime to see people with their debit cards out buying that new pair of gorgeous shoes!

But I’m sure that we are not an exception - and that all of you have had a quick browse of the sales while sat at work.

If your bosses aren’t too happy about this fact, then I may be able to give you some ammunition.

According to a report in the Times of India, spending some time shopping online during an eight-hour day at work might not actually be doing the company any harm.

Dr Claire Simmers carried out a study which suggested that spending some time during the day switched off from work activities "might not affect workers’ performances as believed by bosses" the publication noted.

"If an employee spends an hour surfing the net, but an entire weekend working on a report, there should be trust that both are equally benefiting from this relationship," continued Dr Simmers.

According to the Money Saving blog, shopping online has benefits over visiting stores as you are less likely to make impulse purchases and you have access to greater choice when it comes to clothing.

Do you enjoy shopping online from the office? Does your employer know?

Jogging - good for brain and body

Jogging - good for brain and body

We all want to look good in our designer clothing purchases, especially if we have splashed out on an item in the sales. And we know that jogging is one way that many people like to stay in shape.

It’s not been easy to head out jogging recently with the pavements being so icy, but as well as burning off extra calories, you can also give your brain a boost.

New research from Maryland-based US National Institute on Ageing, new brain cell growth can be encouraged by heading out for a run as little as a few days per week.

"I can’t understate how important regular exercise is in improving the function and performance of the brain. It’s such a wonderful medicine," said John Ratey, associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

These brain cells are supposedly linked to memory formation and keeping the mind young.

So not only can you keep your body in shape for all of your designer dresses, but you can improve your memory and brain health!

If that’s not an incentive to get your trainers on I don’t know what is.

Recently, The Hills star Heidi Montag admitted to undergoing ten cosmetic procedures in one day to make herself look better. However, here at Secret Sales we think that she looked far more attractive before any of the ops.
