New Kate Moss collection hits Topshop

New Kate Moss collection hits Topshop

Yes, it’s true that we here at Secret Sales HQ love designer clothes. If it’s Balenciaga I’ll wear it, same goes for Balmain, Chloe and Moschino of course. But just because I have a particular penchant for high-end labels, that doesn’t mean I would forgo the high street entirely.

As I’m sure you know by now, I completely adore Topshop. Granted, if your entire wardrobe is stocked entirely with the store’s designs, chances are you won’t make much of a unique impression when rolling up to that fabulous Christmas party in the same dress as four other girls! Being selective when making purchases is a must, but one thing’s for sure, you’re likely to get a very fashionable buy in this shop.

So, it should come as no surprise just how excited I am that Kate Moss’s new Topshop line has finally been launched. And I have to admit, it’s stunning as usual.

Inspired by her favourite vintage pieces from her own wardrobe, the range comprises the usual cute slips, statement dresses, quirky jackets and sexy bejewelled knitwear.

There is one seriously sexy plunging sequin minidress in the line which would look fabulous with some black fishnets and killer heels, while Kate has gone oriental with an asymmetric bamboo-print dress.

Another notable piece is the stunning rose Geisha blouse, which follows the Japanese and Chinese theme nicely, which is certainly a pretty and girly alternative to the tough grungy rock looks that are still prevalent at the minute.

Do you think fashion icon Kate has delivered another winning line?

Paris Fashion Week here we come

The fickle world of fashion moves so quickly. With Milan Fashion Week barely behind us, the industry is gearing up already for nine whole fabulous days in Paris - and I can’t wait.

I have my flight booked, my suitcase packed and my schedule securely fastened in my Dior handbag - all there’s left to do is get a move on and before I know it, I’ll be sitting in a chic Parisian cafe drinking espresso and waiting for my favourite shows to start.

While I do love the excitement surrounding London Fashion Week and the hustle and bustle in the air, I have to say, it doesn’t even come close to the way I feel about Paris. This is the capital of fashion after all!

Granted, Milan was fabulous and those sexy Dolce and Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Moschino shows did stand out, but I expect Paris will be magical in comparison.

Among the shows I’m most looking forward to seeing are Chanel, Stella McCartney, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marant and Balmain - of course.

The only problem is that I might find it hard to squeeze them all in. Every trip to Paris must be accompanied by at least a little sightseeing after all.

What about you? Lanvin, Valentino, Miu Miu, Chloe, Nina Ricci - does any of that tickle your fancy?

Rihanna hearts Stella McCartney’s kinky thigh-highs

RnB songstress Rihanna has never been a favourite of mine. While I applaud her for her daring sense of style, I simply can’t get over the fact that she looks like a bit of a diva. Superficial as it sounds, I refuse to advocate wearing dark sunglasses indoors and at night time - designer brand or not. The fact that she rarely smiles when she steps out in public adds to this irritation of mine - irrational I know, but I can’t help it.

So, you can imagine how torn I was when I spotted snaps of the Umbrella singer wearing one of the most fabulous pairs of boots I have clasped my eyes on in years - the sexy faux leather black thigh-high perforated boots by Stella McCartney.

The must-have boots that the designer herself was wearing back in March are in hot demand by every A-list fashionista in the UK and the US, and retail at a hefty £715. But even getting on the waiting list for the kinky foot (and leg)wear is no small feat.

But while I love Stella’s perforated style in particular, there are plenty of other labels putting out similar styles, so there’s no need to despair - Prada and Chloe are making them, and they featured heavily in both fashion weeks in London and New York.

Among those stars to have been spotted sporting the style are Madonna and Lady Gaga - of course - as well as Lindsay Lohan and Victoria Beckham.

Do you fancy the sexy thigh-high numbers?

Custom-made and designer clothes - the perfect mix!

We here at Secret Sales HQ all love our favourite designers, from Dior and Chloe to Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen - and I’m sure that you guys feel the same. But don’t you ever fancy trying your hand at being the clothes creator from time to time? I know I do. And there is nothing more empowering - as a fashionista - to take a boring old high street staple and turn it into your own piece of custom-made designer clothing.

I’m not suggesting that we all rush out to the nearest haberdashery store, go mad with our sewing machines and put our fave labels out of business. But, if you ever feel the need to abstain from buying a divine designer dress, even if that is once in a blue moon, then channel your inner designer and get creative.

My pals at the London College of Fashion couldn’t agree more. The marketing manager down there Reid Aiton explained that we should even consider turning to our favourite fashionable celebrities for inspiration. Take Lady Gaga and La Roux for example. They both have fabulous design sense - and you get the impression that it comes from themselves and not some stuffy, overpaid stylist!

"[Celebs] are incredibly unique and if people choose to copy them, then yes they have to make shop-bought items different or create something from scratch," he pointed out.

You may not be a wizard on the machine, so start out small by changing things like buttons and adding different trimmings to items. But a word of caution: the idea is to be eclectic, to mix and match.

Customise a fabulous jacket by adding shoulder pads and removing boring buttons, but add a splash of classic chic with a pair of designer skinny jeans and skyscraper heels.

Would you be willing to flex your creativity and become a designer for the day?

Shoe design - there’s a new girl in town

Prada, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo are names that are synonymous with shoes - high fashion and simply divine. But high-heel lovers the world over will have to get used to saying the name Sophie Gittins in the same breath as this is one designer who is set to explode over the next year.

The 25-year-old, who graduated from Cordwainers at London College of Fashion, has already had her shoes featured along with some of fashion’s greats in the exhibition Shoes: The Agony and The Ecstacy, and she has even worked on Chloe catwalk collections with former John Galliano, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen accessories head Jennefer Osterhoudt. Those are some good CV credentials, right?

We here at Secret Sales HQ are all very excited about the forthcoming eponymous collection from the young designer - and she herself sounds fairly excited about it. She told my friends at Vogue: "It was always shoes … Really, I design shoes that I’d wear and be happy to wear. It’s surreal and a pleasure to wake up and do what I do."

Apparently her autumn/winter line takes inspiration from architecture in terms of graphic print and trim, so expect austere lines and urban-style looks. This, I think could work really well with the recession chic mantra that is set to continue sweeping through the fashion world, in which labels are going back to basics and creating plainer staples that are based more on long-lasting quality than flashiness and high-octane glam. But this girl is in hot demand, so be prepared to pay a pretty penny for her designs.

How much would you pay for a pair of killer shoes?
