The stars turn out for world-first Burberry show

The stars turn out for world-first Burberry show

Most fashion-conscious celebrities like to make sure that they are kept sufficiently up-to-date with the goings on of the designer clothing world.

And judging by the turnout at yesterday’s (February 23rd) Burberry 3D show at London Fashion Week it would seem that they were clamouring over each other to get seats to see a world-first unfold.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Kirsten Stewart and Mary-Kate Olsen were just some of the stars eager to witness the showcase by the iconic British brand in person.

The unique show allowed fashion-followers far and wide to sit alongside the celebrities in a virtual front-row seat as the event was streamed live to New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo and Dubai.

Putting our excitement about this fabulous new technology to the side, one thing that stood out to us here at Secret Sales HQ is that the autumn/winter 2010 clothing collection from Burberry definitely had a feel of the military.

We automatically stood to attention as models - dubbed the Burberry Cadette Girls - strutted down the catwalk in a variety of military-inspired pieces.

After the success of James Cameron’s Avatar flick and now the world’s first three-dimensional fashion show, perhaps it’s time we picked up a pair of fetching 3D specs? Perhaps not.

Do you think the Burberry 3D fashion show was a good idea?

British designers prove popular at the Baftas

British designers prove popular at the Baftas

As you all know, we here at Secret Sales HQ love nothing more than seeing British clothing designers find success.

That’s why we’re absolutely thrilled that last night’s Bafta awards ceremony seemed to be something of a triumph in the British designer clothing stakes.

It came as no surprise to us that a number of stars chose to pay tribute to the wonderful late Alexander McQueen, with the quirky Jaime Winstone particularly standing out in a beautiful Grecian number by the iconic designer.

Classic British designer Burberry also proved popular with celebrities attending the event, with the luxury brand being fashioned by both Claire Danes and nominee Saiorse Ronan.

However, the outfit that really stood out for me was that of Kate Winslet, who absolutely oozed red carpet glamour in a breathtaking black and lace Stella McCartney number.

But it’s perhaps not surprising that so many celebrities rocked out pieces by British designers at the awards ceremony.

It was recently announced that Bafta had joined forces with the British Fashion Council in order to allow actresses to collaborate with designers to find the perfect gown for the event.

Lucy Yeomans, editor of Harper’s Bazaar magazine and chair of the British Fashion Council’s press committee, told the Guardian: "The red carpet is so important to both the film industry and to the fashion industry. If we can put together a young actress with an up-and-coming designer and they get to know and understand each other, that could be a relationship that lasts 20 years."

Who do you think stood out at the Baftas?

A fashion first for bold Burberry

A fashion first for bold Burberry

Iconic British brand Burberry has revealed that it is set to stage an Avatar-style 3D catwalk show for the first time in fashion history.

While I certainly cannot be bothered to sit through a three-hour epic movie involving bizarre blue creatures, Burberry will easily be able to entice me into the world of 3D animation.

The clothing brand’s autumn/winter 2010 show will be simultaneously streamed directly to fashion hotspots Paris, New York, Tokyo, Dubai and LA.

But before you start stressing out about why London is missed off the list, fear not, we Brits get the real deal as the catwalk show will take place at the Chelsea College of Art during the capital’s fashion week on February 23rd.

Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative officer, explains: "3D technology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colours and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of that moment when it all finally comes together."

Bravo, Burberry - it’s certainly refreshing to see a cherished British brand embrace modern technology to enhance the viewing pleasure of fashionistas far and wide.

And it seems as though the brand - and all things associated with it - is going from strength to strength at the moment. Burberry model and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson was recently named as Hollywood’s highest-paid actress at the tender age of 19.

It’s alright for some!

Prince Charles shapes the future of fashion

Prince Charles shapes the future of fashion

We all know how big a clothing trend sheepskin has been this winter - especially during the unusually cold weather. But it seems that we might all be wrapping up in wool next autumn - thanks to a little help from the Prince of Wales.

Prince Charles has launched a scheme that is aimed at getting people to reconsider wool as a fashionable and eco-friendly clothing material. This, he hopes, will help to bring the price of wool back up across the world and help out farmers.

In 2009 the average cost of wool per kilogram was just 66p - compared to 93p two years earlier.

So not only will we be looking cosy in knitwear, we will be helping out struggling farmers!

Prince Charles has said that he hopes that making clothing from wool will reverse the trend for cheap "throw-away garments that are being dumped in landfill sites", the Times reported.

Many designer clothing labels are already using wool in their collections, including Paul Smith, Burberry and Jasper Conran.

A national wool week is set to run ahead of London Fashion Week in September - so get ready for woolly jumpers, cardigans, scarves and suits!

One of my favourite designers Sonia Rykiel will launch a knitwear collection for H&M towards the end of next month - so we have no excuse for not supporting a worthy cause!

Emma Watson for People Tree

Emma Watson for People Tree

We love young Emma Watson here at Secret Sales HQ. We think that her Burberry campaigns are stunning and think she has a huge career ahead of her in the designer clothing world.

But we were a little surprised to hear that the Harry Potter starlet was launching a range of ethical clothing,

The collection is indeed of noble standing, working to improve the standards of living for those in India, Nepal and Bangladesh and the cotton is organic, fair trade and is made by hand.

Created for People Tree, Alice Olins at the Times said: "What Watson … has done differently is that she has plaited together several fashionable threads to appeal directly to her peers."

Among the items in the collection are hooded jumpers, cricket tops, polo shirts, t-shirt dresses and cropped tracksuit trousers.

Emma explained that there were few ethical clothing options for people her age that were stylish and that is the reasoning behind her collection.

"It is about delivering an important issue to a young market and, really, there is nothing wrong with that," continued Alice.

Emma’s brother is also following her lead into the realms of modeling and designer clothing. He recently appeared alongside her in the latest ad campaign for Burberry.
