Emma Watson steals the Burberry show

Not only has London Fashion Week (LFW) been momentous this year because of its 25th anniversary, it also saw the return of Burberry to the capital from Milan where the collections are usually unveiled.

It should therefore come as no surprise that fashion’s biggest A-list names made a point of attending yesterday to witness Burberry’s comeback - in fact, the front row looked more like the Oscars than LFW!

Among those in attendance were the usual faces including Alexa Chung, Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe, but the big guns quickly emerged in the form of Victoria Beckham, Anna Wintour, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Mario Testino and Mary Kate Olsen.

However, the fashionista to make the biggest impact at the show, even more so than the designer clothing range itself, was the face of Burberry, Emma Watson.

Taking time off from her first term at the prestigious Brown University in the US, the Harry Potter actress jetted home to celebrate the biggest moment in LFW. She looked absolutely radiant in a dress by the same label - a glitzy gold thigh-skimming number with a bang-on-trend zip halfway down the front and a black belt cinching in the waist. She paired the gorgeous dress with vertiginous black cut-out platforms that allowed the tiny vixen to hold her own among the towering models around her!

Do you think Emma was the ruling queen at the Burberry show?

Gwen Stefani rocks the peg leg trend

When Gwen Stefani rocks a new trend, we should seriously give it some thought. This is the woman who managed to crack the mainstream with her punk-ska style and who brought the 1950s pin-up girl look back to the forefront of fashion.

So, when I spied pictures of the No Doubt frontwoman and uber-yummy mummy sporting a pair of peg leg trousers, it immediately occurred to me that the rest of the fashion pack is set to follow.

Not only are these trousers super-chic and perfectly relevant to the androgynous power dressing look that is set to dominate trends this season, but they are also very practical for our muggy winter weather.

I know that’s a very boring and mumsy-like thought to put out there, but really, we’ll be able to slosh through London’s rainy streets and step into puddles without suffering a complete fashion meltdown on a daily basis … sounds good to me!

What was fabulous about Gwen’s trousers in particular was the high waist of course - ever so flattering and very chic indeed. But she managed to tone the tailored look down just a tad by matching her peg legs with a casual oversized T-shirt, which she cinched in at the waist with a fabulous black leather belt.

And not to forget the most important thing when it comes to these trousers - like Gwen, we should be wearing them with killer heels. Flats simply won’t do, unless you want to look like Huckleberry Finn - not a good style for anyone.

Have you any peg leg trouser tips for this season?

This is ‘the season of the shoulder’

You know how we here at Secret Sales HQ love the shoulder-pad look and I for one intend to continue embracing it for as long as it is considered fashionable to do so. So you can imagine my delight when celebrity stylist and Clothes Show Live guru Debbie Hamblin told me that this autumn is going to be "the season of the shoulder".

She suggested that those of us who aren’t brave enough to actually spend money on a pointy-shouldered blazer or coat should still not give up hope on looking like we have stepped right out of Dynasty! By investing in some shoulder pads from your local haberdashery as well as a nifty sewing kit, she claimed that anyone can get the 1980s-inspired look for less.

But, what should we pair with such a glam upper silhouette? Not that we needed to be informed, but Debbie reaffirmed the fact that skinny jeans and leggings are going to remain huge over the next few months. However, the key to looking fabulous in them along with our shoulder-padded top half is our designer shoe selections.

"Key looks for autumn/winter - still sky-high, chunky, platform and strappy - from shoes to boots. Also, the court shoe is featuring very strongly," she hinted.

If that isn’t too much trend advice to go on for some designer clothes shopping this week, then try to remember the significance of the belt - wide, waisted and with ornate buckle detail.

Have you any tips for autumn style?

Tess Daly outshines Strictly contestants

The new series of the X Factor may have started on ITV1 last Saturday night, but that can only mean one thing - Strictly Come Dancing is about to return too. And while all eyes should have been on the lineup of the show’s celebrity contestants when they were unveiled today, I couldn’t help but notice just how fabulous the show’s hostess Tess Daly was looking.

I’m not talking about her amazing post-baby weight figure or the related criticism she has endured for it, rather, the 38-year-old blonde bombshell looked absolutely stunning thanks to the very bold - and brave - designer dress she chose to wear.

Bright pink is certainly not my cup of tea, but given the occasion and the glitzy and glamorous nature of the show Tess stepped out to promote, she ticked all the style boxes on my list and even managed to upstage the contestants who are supposed to be at the centre of attention!

The mum-of-two accessorised the thigh-skimming minidress with cute capped sleeves with a very on-trend black and silver studded waist-cinching belt. She added a pair of black cut-out shoe boot heels to add just that extra bit of rock’n'roll edge, which looked fabulously edgy juxtaposed with the girly dress. And, to top the look off, Mrs Vernon Kay sported an oversized crocodile skin bowling bag, the sheer size of which made her look even more petite than she already is!

Like I said before, I’m not a huge fan of the pink sported here by Tess, but are there any colours that you simply refuse to cave in to?
