Armani proves a winning choice at the Oscars

Armani proves a winning choice at the Oscars

With the Oscars being one of the biggest events on the designer clothing world’s calendar each year, we here at Secret Sales HQ were eagerly awaiting the reports of who pulled out all the stops on the red carpet.

While I would have quite possibly given my right arm to be there, unfortunately I had to make do with pouring over pictures of a whole host of celebrities in an array of fabulous designer dresses yesterday morning.

And one thing that quickly became apparent to me was that there was one designer who absolutely stole the show - Giorgio Armani.

While the iconic Italian clothing designer’s gowns always tend to get more than their fair share of celebrity wearers at glittering events, Sunday’s Oscars seemed to be near-enough a clean sweep.

Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Swank and Amanda Seyfried were just some of the stars who fashioned gorgeous Armani creations.

If there is a prize to be awarded for Most Daring Dress, it simply has to go to Hilary, who wore a breathtaking Giorgio Armani Prive black gown, with a cut-out back and a plunging neckline that was slashed almost to the navel.

While I’m not too sure that many of us would be able to get away with this number, it certainly looked fab on super-toned Hilary.

Teaming the designer dress with a bling-tastic diamond pendant and platform heels by Secret Sales favourite Jimmy Choo, the Oscar-winning actress certainly looked like a Million Dollar Baby.

Do you think Armani is a good choice for awards ceremonies?

Armani “I will never sell”

Armani I will never sell

Worries that were rife about the future of the designer clothing fashion house Armani have been put to bed by Giorgio Armani himself.

Concerns over the health of the 75-year-old led to rumours about what could happen to the brand should he retire from his position at the forefront of the label as plans for the event have been kept a closely guarded secret.

However, at the weekend (January 16th) the fashion designer announced in an interview that he had no intention of removing himself from the helm of the company and no sale of the business was on the cards, the Financial Times reported.

"I will never sell because I have no need to and I have no desire to. And I will not step aside as long as, touch wood, I can keep up the pace. I want to follow everything, be busy with everything, and the last word will always be mine," he told the Corriere della Sera, an Italian newspaper.

The interview took place on the same weekend as the start of the menswear fashion week in Milan.

According to Vogue, Versace’s collection on the catwalk this week featured black leather, bulky jewellery and tattoo art.

David Beckham ‘is the best-dressed man’

Tags: ,

Whether appearing in Armani ads, modelling his own range of Adidas clothing or simply pulling on an England football shirt, David Beckham is the epitome of style.

In fact, the LA Galaxy midfielder and celebrity husband is so stylish that one of Savile Row’s top tailors has dubbed him the best-dressed male celebrity.

Ray Stowers told AskMen that David may be an obvious choice for the accolade, but he is definitely the right one.

"David Beckham has an amazing sense of style and has an undeniable knack of transforming himself from an elegant gentleman in a three-piece suit and into a cardigan and jeans without ever looking scruffy or unkempt," the tailor said.

Here at Secret Sales HQ we couldn’t agree more with the verdict. Personality wise David may be as safe as they come, but it’s a different story when it comes to fashion, as he is never afraid to try unconventional and edgy new looks.

We are less impressed with some of the other choices in Mr Stowers’s top ten.

Mark Ronson is number two, despite only having one dull look, while David Furnish and Brandon Flowers also make the list.

There is, however, a well-deserved place for Ray Winstone - which just goes to show that you can’t beat a man in a classic well-cut suit.

Who is the best-dressed man?

Bella - the hot new super-canine-model!

Move over Victoria Beckham with your Armani campaign and get out of the way Scarlett Johansson for Dolce and Gabbana, there’s a new star in town to model the most stylish designer clothing out there and her name is Bella.

Of course, this new fashionista is super-skinny like the rest and she is believed to have one of the most distinctive looks in the industry, but I forgot to mention one thing - she’s a dog.

Bella the labradoodle is set to be the next big thing in fashion since landing a contract with dog style brand Dogside.com.

At the tender old age of five - which is 35 in human years - you might be thinking she’s a bit long in the tooth to be just starting off her career, but she has some of the best advisers at her beck and call, so there’s no need to fret about her welfare.

Yes that’s right, Bella’s owner just happens to be one of the most experienced and highest earning models in the industry - Elle Macpherson.

With a fashion powerhouse like The Body behind her, Bella isn’t likely to put one paw out of line and my guess is she will soon be poised to take over the canine world.

But perhaps my view is slightly biased - as someone who loves fashion - because Dogs Today magazine doesn’t seem so keen on the idea of there being a super-canine-model.

The publication’s editor Beverley Cuddy voiced her concerns to the Daily Mail, saying: "Just like people who want to put their child on the stage, people may see this and imagine their dog can be a bit of an earner … But there is not much available modelling work out there."

Do think this is fair enough or do you believe Bella should be applauded for realising her dream?

Get the Rock out of here

Celebrity fashion ranges can be a bit hit and miss. Personally, I tend to either love them (Gwen Stefani’s LAMB) or hate them (Katie Price’s pink/diamante/velour equestrian creations do nothing for me).

But soon we might not be able to judge the taste of our favourite stars, as apparently collaborations between celebs and designers are going out of fashion.

Rock and Republic president Andrea Berholtz has insisted that the brand is moving on and leaving celebrity collaborations behind.

The fashion aficionados among you might remember the deal Rock and Republic had with our very own Victoria Beckham, who came up with the fabulous range of VB Rocks jeans.

Berholtz has been quoted recently saying that these kind of deals have seen their peak of success in designer clothing ranges. Does this mean that there will be no more Lily Allen dresses and no more Kylie Minogue underwear?

Well, it makes sense to leave clothes designing to the the experts anyway. Let’s face it, they do it best. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on a beautiful and timeless pair of Armani jeans?

Despite what the experts think, Victoria Beckham is carrying on regardless and was snapped in London on a shoot for her fashion range this week.

Posh was pictured sitting on a swing for most of the shoot, which is little wonder considering she was wearing fabulous seven-inch red Louboutin Biancas.

Are you a fan of celebrity designer clothes?
