Cheryl Cole and Penelope Cruz go head to head

I must admit, I, along with 12 million other viewers, sat in on Saturday night to watch the X Factor.

While following the talent contest and rooting for my favourite acts is a major part of this new cheap night in, one of my favourite parts of the show is the money shot at the beginning when the four judges emerge from behind that huge glittering screen.

Not that I have any interest in sour-faced Simon Cowell or Mr Louis Walsh mind you, for me, it’s all about what Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole are wearing.

So, you can imagine how disappointed I was with myself when it finally dawned on me - thanks to fashion magazine Marie Claire - that the gorgeous white asymmetrical Grecian-style gown worn by Cheryl was none other than another version of the Atelier Versace dress worn by Oscar winner Penelope Cruz at the Vanity Fair after party of this year’s Academy Awards.

As always, Cheryl glitzed and glammed her dress up with a lot of voluminous hair and bling in the form of a diamond-encrusted headpiece, while elegant Penelope went for a more demure look consisting of a chic and neat chignon, and simple diamond stud earrings.

I personally can’t decide who made the dress work best, but I generally admire the nature of Penelope’s understated and classic style more.
