Go short with shorts this winter
December 10th, 2009
I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Milan this time of year but they certainly dress for the weather.
One January I stepped off the plane in the Italian capital of fashion to be greeted by a native friend who told me I stuck out like an English sore thumb. Wearing a gorgeous designer jacket, chunky knit scarf, straight leg jeans and stunning embellished ballet pumps, I felt I was adequately dressed.
A lack of wintery footwear is the giveaway sign of a London girl in freezing Milan, it seems.
So when I read in the Independent that micro shorts had been spotted on the autumn/winter catwalk in the city, I was somewhat worried about what Milan’s beautiful people may think!
Prada saw women dressed in baggy shorts, knitted jumpers, bare thighs and over-the-knee boots parade down the runway, in the only city where I have been conscious wearing peep-toe stilettos to Just Cavalli Cafe on a chilly Saturday night.
Here at Secret Sales we always thought the mottled skin of a cold thigh was a look that cashmere tights were invented to avoid?
"The unifying factor where shorts are concerned is that they are designed to be dressed up - way up," explained Susannah Frankel at the Independent.
Perhaps I’m being a wimp. Will you be embracing micro shorts this winter?
