Vivienne Westwood showcases “homeless chic”
January 19th, 2010
It’s that time of year again when the stylish and the beautiful descend on the Italian capital of designer clothing for men’s fashion week.
This weekend (January 16th) saw the events all kick off in Milan and one show stood out as being a little bit eccentric - and even raised a few eyebrows.
Our much-loved Vivienne Westwood left a few onlookers a little stunned as the theme of her show was described by some as "homeless chic", the Times reported.
The catwalk was covered in cardboard boxes and some of the models came down the runway pushing shopping trolleys filled with newspaper and others had sleeping bags thrown over their shoulders.
Vivienne said that her inspiration for the Museo della Permanente show came from her husband, whose friend works for a charity that supports the homeless.
"Perhaps the oddest of heroes to emerge this season, Vivienne Westwood found inspiration in the roving vagrant whose daily get-up is a battle gear for the harsh weather conditions," a press release for her men’s clothing collection stated, according to the publication.
At the end of her show, she was wheeled out on a stretcher to accept her applause - but just for effect, the Metro stated!
Do you think her theme was insensitive?

Vivienne Westwood is without a doubt the biggest, most uncompassionate b**** ever to walk the earth. Homelessness is not “chic” or funny for the people who experience it on a daily basis. Does she realize that the average age of a homeless person is nine freakin’ years old??? Does she find that amusing? If part of the proceeds of her crappy clothing was donated to helping the homeless, I would be applauding her. But by trying to make a profit off the suffering of others, I think she’s scum. I would love to see her spend a week trying to live in a shelter, or better yet, on the streets. Maybe then she would rethink her fun little fashion line.
