Not much cash for gold
January 30th, 2010
I am a big buyer of accessories and jewellery. I have so many bracelets, bangles and necklaces that I don’t know where to put them half of the time!
While having a bit of a sort out of the boxes of jewellery that I’ve amassed, the thought crossed my mind to perhaps sell some of it to put towards the fund I have to pay for the new purse I have my eye on - that matches my Mulberry tote bag.
However, before you think about sending your necklaces and bracelets off to a gold-buying company whose adverts have taken over daytime television, you might want to think twice.
According to Which?, you won’t get any closer to buying a designer handbag by selling your unwanted gold to one of these companies.
It revealed in a report this month that the average amount one of these firms offered for three pieces of jewellery bought for £729 was just £38.57!
TV firms were found to only offer around six per cent of the gold’s actual value.
Now the Office of Fair Trading is looking into some of their practices - so you might want to hang on to your items.
Have you had a bad experience with a gold-buying company?
