Marc Jacobs brings back the bumbag
January 28th, 2010
I hope you are sitting down and are not holding any hot drinks when you read this. But the dreaded bumbag is attempting a comeback.
Yes designer clothing fans, I kid you not. Louis Vuitton is attempting to resurrect the accessory that we all thought had been banished into the wardrobe of bad taste for good.
"A favourite of socks-and-sandals-donning American tourists, this fashion relic has now been dredged from the archive of dubious taste and is the accessory for spring, thanks to Marc Jacobs," said Phong Luu at the Telegraph.
Although here at Secret Sales we love Marc Jacobs - especially his designer handbags, purses and shoes - you have to wonder what he was thinking when he debuted his bumbag for Louis Vuitton on the catwalk.
The monstrosity was huge, with two compartments and two very large tassels hanging from it.
Luu said that they will soon start appearing on the high street, with American Apparel and Marks & Spencers preparing to unleash their own versions.
She quoted the executive fashion and jewellery editor from Harper’s Bazaar Gaia Geddes who thought that it would be a designer clothing trend reserved for those under 25.
"It’s a tribute to Marc Jacobs that he can even make the bumbag seem so covetable," she added.
Emma Sibbles, also at the Telegraph, has stressed that bumbags should be left to the models on the runway.
What do you think? Will cycling shorts be next?
