Don't end up looking like you have four boobs

Earlier in the week, a Which? report revealed that bra fitting services in the UK were inadequate - and we all know what poorly fitting underwear can do to an outfit.

So in order to avoid unsightly lumps and bumps how can we ensure that we are choosing the right size when we shop for undergarments?

We spoke to the programme leader for contour fashion at De Montfort University Gillian Proctor, who gave some great advice to ensure that we are properly supported!

"You should be measured consistently - your size can change within weeks," she said.

"If you want to change the effect you want your bra to create, then in terms of styling your cup size may vary between two or three cup sizes [during the month]," she added.

Gillian explained that your bra does not fit properly if your straps constantly fall down, the back of the bra sits too highly on your back and if the centre of the bra does not sit against your skin.

You don’t want to look like you have four boobs instead of two underneath your top, she continued!

Which? found that of the high street stores that offered a bra fitting service, less than one in three were adequate enough to recommend. It stressed that if your underwear does not fit properly, it can make neck, back and shoulder problems worse.

Have you been disappointed by bra-fitting services?

Julie:

I too have a small frame but a large bust - I was always told that I too was a 34DD, but none of the bras fitted properly.

I went to Bravissimo and got a proper bra fitting, they don’t use tape measures, they actually get the bra to fit you by sight and by asking how it actually feels on you. I was found to actually be a 30G and my bras now fit me brilliantly - you can get cheap bras in those sizes from Ebay, Figleaves etc - for less than thirty pounds.

Hope this helps - good luck.

I am only 4ft 10in in height. I have a 34DD bust. Im sick and tired of buying bra`s what look ok in the changing rooms after being measured (each time I purchase a bra) then after wearing them a couple of hours I have 4 boobs! I spend on average £30 each time on a bra. Its costing me a small fortune, yet when I mention to the assistant about my problem, they measure me again at 34DD. Where a bra is suppose to sit flat between your boobs, because apparently of my small frame no bra will fit me in that way. Help!!

The sizes are very inconsistent. Very annoying.

And I’m pleased to report that after our piece earlier in the week speculated about whether Lindsay Lohan’s relationship with the Emanuel Ungaro brand was well and truly over, we have finally got ...
March 12th, 2010 - Clothing designers may not be best known for their ability to create pieces that are particularly practical for we average Joe types. I mean, I have been extolling the virtues of the final Alexander McQueen collection to all and sundry, but I don’t think any of us here at the Secret Sales office are particularly likely ...

March 12th, 2010 - Oh dear, it would appear that our little Victoria Beckham has started to get ideas above her station. While there is absolutely no doubt that her designer clothing collection has attracted the attention of stars far and wide and was embraced by fashionistas both sides of the pond at New York Fashion Week, I don’t think ...
March 11th, 2010 - After Alexander McQueen sadly passed away last month there was absolutely no doubt that the iconic clothing designer would go down in the history books as one of the fashion world’s most prominent figures. And now his last collection, showcased yesterday (March 9th) at Paris Fashion Week, proved exactly why his beautiful creations look set to ...

March 11th, 2010 - The ever-fabulous Agyness Deyn is a firm favourite here at Secret Sales HQ - not only does she manage to come up with designer clothing ensembles that many of us can only dream of, but she always seems to put her own unique stamp on every outfit she fashions. March 11th, 2010 - All hail Chanel! Not only have they been one of my long-time favourite designer clothing brands, but they have now proven that there is definitely no future for fur in fashion. In a truly breathtaking show, Chanel models strutted through fake icebergs that wouldn’t look out of place in the Arctic at the iconic French designer’s Paris ...

March 10th, 2010 - Lindsay Lohan is perhaps not best known for her reliability, or in fact, her designer clothing know-how but that didn’t stop the Emanuel Ungaro brand from taking the star under their wing as artistic director last year. And unfortunately for the French fashion house, the collaboration between the pair seems to have been one huge flop. When ...
March 10th, 2010 - With the Oscars being one of the biggest events on the designer clothing world’s calendar each year, we here at Secret Sales HQ were eagerly awaiting the reports of who pulled out all the stops on the red carpet.
