Don’t end up looking like you have four boobs
January 30th, 2010
Earlier in the week, a Which? report revealed that bra fitting services in the UK were inadequate - and we all know what poorly fitting underwear can do to an outfit.
So in order to avoid unsightly lumps and bumps how can we ensure that we are choosing the right size when we shop for undergarments?
We spoke to the programme leader for contour fashion at De Montfort University Gillian Proctor, who gave some great advice to ensure that we are properly supported!
"You should be measured consistently - your size can change within weeks," she said.
"If you want to change the effect you want your bra to create, then in terms of styling your cup size may vary between two or three cup sizes [during the month]," she added.
Gillian explained that your bra does not fit properly if your straps constantly fall down, the back of the bra sits too highly on your back and if the centre of the bra does not sit against your skin.
You don’t want to look like you have four boobs instead of two underneath your top, she continued!
Which? found that of the high street stores that offered a bra fitting service, less than one in three were adequate enough to recommend. It stressed that if your underwear does not fit properly, it can make neck, back and shoulder problems worse.
Have you been disappointed by bra-fitting services?

Julie:
I too have a small frame but a large bust - I was always told that I too was a 34DD, but none of the bras fitted properly.
I went to Bravissimo and got a proper bra fitting, they don’t use tape measures, they actually get the bra to fit you by sight and by asking how it actually feels on you. I was found to actually be a 30G and my bras now fit me brilliantly - you can get cheap bras in those sizes from Ebay, Figleaves etc - for less than thirty pounds.
Hope this helps - good luck.
I am only 4ft 10in in height. I have a 34DD bust. Im sick and tired of buying bra`s what look ok in the changing rooms after being measured (each time I purchase a bra) then after wearing them a couple of hours I have 4 boobs! I spend on average £30 each time on a bra. Its costing me a small fortune, yet when I mention to the assistant about my problem, they measure me again at 34DD. Where a bra is suppose to sit flat between your boobs, because apparently of my small frame no bra will fit me in that way. Help!!
The sizes are very inconsistent. Very annoying.
