Susan Boyle ‘a style icon’

Susan Boyle 'a style icon'

There’s absolutely no doubt that Susan Boyle has got a truly fantastic voice but we here at Secret Sales HQ believe that she leaves quite a lot to be desired in terms of the clothing stakes.

But it would appear that Jay Z has got a very different idea.

Despite being married to one of the most stylish women in the world, the US rapper feels that Su Bo is a true fashion icon.

He told the News of the World that he thinks she has got what it takes to follow in the footsteps of stars such as Kate Moss and Emma Watson and launch her own clothing brand.

"Everybody wants a piece of her and the market for her is huge. I could see her with her own clothing range," he said.

Jay Z went on to tell the quite possibly bemused reporters over at the News of the World that Su Bo will have a "massive appeal" among women of a certain age.

"They’ll see an ordinary person who made the best of herself. It’ll give them hope."

I don’t think that fashion icons such as Alexa Chung will be exactly quaking in their designer boots but we’ll see!

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Susan was seen fashioning a fabulous pair of Giuseppe Zanotti heels - perhaps this was part of her designer clothing re-vamp?

Can you see Susan Boyle becoming a style icon?

White works wonders this spring

White works wonders this spring

I know that you’re all probably thinking that white is the last thing you want to wear with the pasty skin that so delightfully comes alongside the winter season.

But grab yourself a spray tan and step into spring in wondrous white clothing because it’s set to be one of the season’s hottest trends.

Fellow fashionista Lily Russo over at Grazia magazine has said that a gorgeous white designer dress could prove to be a "refreshing summery evening outfit".

Lily goes on to suggest pairing a white dress with a pair of patterned tights and vintage-inspired metallic heels.

And those of you who are getting your tan out of a bottle, wearing tights may be a good choice as it means less time fake-tanning and more time looking simply fabulous.

For those of you who want some celebrity inspiration, look no further than Secret Sales fashion favourite Whitney Port, who was seen at an MTV event over in the Big Apple last week wearing an unusual one-sleeved white jersey dress, patterned tights and vintage heels.

Vogue writers recently advised that while white tends to be a trend every summer - particularly with those annoying people who are lucky enough to turn a gorgeous shade of mahogany merely by looking at the sun - this year it’s going to be "a full washout".

Bleached cotton, tailored cuts and ruffled hems are all expected to be key designer clothing trends in the coming season.

Do you dare to wear white this spring?

Avoid Valentine’s Day clothing dilemmas this year

Avoid Valentine's Day clothing dilemmas this year

I don’t know about you but every single year I seem to have some sort of clothing-related dilemma on Valentine’s Day.

Let’s face it, whether you’re heading out on a romantic date with your significant other or going out for a fabulous night on the town with your girlfriends, we will all welcome a little bit of fashion advice.

Harriet Quick over at Vogue has given some top tips for us fashionistas to ensure that we look simply gorgeous, however we choose to spend the most romantic day of the year.

Rather than opting for a full-on red or pink number, she suggests adding just a touch of red to your outfit - perhaps a stunning pair of designer shoes or subtle red earrings would do the trick?

Furthermore, designers such as Stella McCartney and Erdem have encapsulated this season’s pretty floral trend, which could be perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Who knows, maybe wearing a floral dress or top will even encourage your man to get down to the florist and order you a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part!

Finally, Harriet advises that those of you heading out on a first date should opt for a small clutch bag, as "no one wants to look as though they have baggage" (whether that be the emotional sort or the abundance of useless belongings that I seem to accumulate in my Mulberry bag)!

If you’re stuck on what to get your loved one for Valentine’s Day this year then you might be wise to go for a good old-fashioned kiss and cuddle - 84 per cent of people who took part in a recent survey by Rolo said that they would prefer a small, romantic gesture than being showered with lavish gifts.

Do you have any plans this Valentine’s Day?
