Women ‘take 13 days to get ready for office party’

Women 'take 13 days to get ready for office party'

We though we were bad here at Secret Sales HQ when it comes to spending time preparing for a social event. But women in the UK spend an average of 312 hours getting ready for their office Christmas bash!

This is according to research carried out for the Clothes Show Live, which found that for many women, the festive event is the highlight of their annual social calendar.

So how can you possibly spend 312 hours getting ready … that’s, what, almost two weeks of solid preparation? The survey found that the typical woman will spend 96 hours trying to get into shape - beginning as far in advance as late September for some.

Finding the perfect designer dress demands an average of 72 hours and two whole days is typically spent looking for the perfect accessories - clutch bag, designer shoes and jewellery.

Advice from friends - this is a common topic of conversation here at Secret Sales - accounts for 63 hours and 12 hours is spent in the salon and on hair styling.

Harriet Quick over at the Telegraph suggests bodycon dresses and sequins if you want to "play it safe" this Christmas party.

When did you start getting ready for your office bash?

Unleash your inner punk and shop dangerously this season

Unleash your inner punk and shop dangerously this season

‘Tis the season to indulge your inner rock star and embrace studs, spikes and rivets. From designer jackets to cardigans and shoes, one of the hottest trends this winter is embellished with metal!

Gemma Hayward, fashion writer at the Independent, says that: "Not since punk’s heyday have they been so prevalent."

Designer clothing collections embracing studs and spikes this Christmas include Alexander McQueen - if you want to make a statement in spiked heels - and Marc Jacobs for a more soft and subtle look.

Gemma noted that Giles Deacon’s catwalk show saw spiked conical skirts hit the runway and Julien MacDonald showcased epaulettes similarly adorned with hardware.

The high street, as always, has followed suit and here at Secret Sales we have already been spotting our favourite items to put on our Christmas lists.

"Investment shopping has never looked so dangerous," added Gemma, who added that Christian Louboutin has launched some coveted ballet pumps with spike detail - so there is no excuse to miss out on this trend!

Recently, Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas attended the American Music Awards in a stunning floor-length black studded dress showing exactly how this trend can be worn as evening wear.

How will you adopt the look this season?

Sonia Rykiel underwear for H&M is almost here …

Sonia Rykiel underwear for H&M is almost here ...

Sonia Rykiel is one of my favourite designer clothing labels. When I lived in Paris I used to walk past her boutique on Boulevard St Germain on my way home from work every day. Browsing the beautiful rails of clothing was one of my favourite indulgences - and one that I miss the most!

This is why I am particularly excited about her new range for high street store H&M. Her collections embody Parisienne style - elegant, pretty and understated - and her underwear line will be launched at the weekend (December 5th) at H&M.

And what is even more exciting is - unlike the Jimmy Choo collection, which saw people queuing at the doors - there will be no limit on the numbers of items you can buy at one time.

I will certainly be popping into a London store at the weekend to treat myself to some designer nightwear as well as some gorgeous underwear.

The line was launched in Paris yesterday (December 1st) to an Alice in Wonderland faiytale theme including a 30-metre replica of la Tour Eiffel.

She will also be designing a knitwear range for the store in February!

Will I see any of you at the Rykiel launch this weekend?
