Nicola Roberts - the true fashionista of Girls Aloud

back
Tags: ,

I must confess I am not a big fan of Girls Aloud. In terms of fashion, I think Cheryl Cole is overrated. She would not look half as good as she now does had she not been brainwashed by a stylist when she joined X Factor last year to rid her of her ingrained chaviness. I believe Sarah Harding struggles to pull any look off with class and elegance, and I find it difficult to tell Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle apart, owing to their matching hair extensions and perma-tanned skin.

The only redeeming thing about the group, in my humble opinion, is Nicola Roberts. Yes, the redhead who Chris Moyles once so irritatingly labelled "the ugly one" is my favourite. I love her unique style and the fact that she proactively goes against the grain of the traditional sex symbol look.

Granted, most guys in the country wouldn’t pass up a date with Cheryl and co, but that is exactly my point. You can dress them up in Dior, Versace and Louis Vuitton, but they still look like girls you would expect to see working in your local chip shop. Nicola, on the other hand, is different.

She is not afraid to don her beautiful pale and non-tangoed skin in vintage shift dresses and daring retro prints. She makes a conscious effort to stand out from the crowd and as a result appears more Vogue high fashion than FHM high street honey.

Although one tiny criticism I have of Nicola is that she ought to tone down her head-to-toe Chanel addiction. We all love a bit of Coco, but as with everything else, only in moderation. She was recently pictured in a cardigan, skirt, tights, shoes, bag and umbrella- all by Chanel! If she tones it down just a tad, she will continue to trump her fake baked bandmates.

Ladies, use Nicola as a cautionary tale - mix and match your labels while going against the grain. And remember to be an individual!

Which member of Girls Aloud is your favourite stylista?

yep i have to say I like nicolas style I like kimberley’s Style aswell however nadine tries to make herself look like a clone of kimberley far too much these days the tan, the extensions and so forth I think nadine is under the illusion that if she copies kimberley’s style she might look as curvy as kimberley it’s not going to happen nads i like nicola for her individualism

Nicola is really cute and I’m glad to see someone else recognising this! I’m sick of everyone saying she’s a ginger minger, she has gorgeous hair and is right not to o.d. on the fake tan!!!

I agree completely; Nicola is striking and naturally very graceful looking, while the others look like tequila sunrises

I also agree with everything that has been said. Cheryl Cole is totally overrated.
I can’t stand her!

No way!!!! Sarah is my favourite. she is a minx. i love her and she has no doubt got the best fashion sense. less is more in my book :)

Hayley - July 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Yup nicola is the best! She is very stylish nowadays.

I completely agree with everything in this post. I do not understand the out of control obsession the nation has with with Cheryl Cole…I am in no way a snob, but she is just ordinary and so obviously styled….I doubt she knows what items suit her or even has an opinion on the things she wears. Nicola on the otherhand looks like she has put an outfit together herself and understands and likes what she is wearing, with Cheryl it’s just trying to be sexy and generally trying to hard.
