Timex – The brand 
1854 marks the beginning of the history behind the Timex brand. Formerly known as the Waterbury Clock Company, the company started of manufacturing wrist watches and clocks for soldiers, farmers and women. Nearly a century later, in 1932 a successful deal with Disney was launched, allowing the licensing of an image of Mickey Mouse to appear on watch faces. Over a million of the Mickey Mouse watches were sold, a huge statistic for the time.
As a brand Timex officially established themselves in 1949, starting the sales of affordable, durable and mechanical watches to the mass consumer world. The launch saw Timex becoming America’s leading watch brand in the Sixties; they used live advertising and TV campaigns as a novel approach to entice customers.
The past two decades have seen Timex demonstrating real innovation in the industry. In the early Nineties Timex launched Indiglo® night lights, a revelation for any darkness phobics. The brand was voted most loved and well known in 1996 by Fairchild, a great testament to all Timex were doing at that moment. Two years later, Indiglo® display watches debuted, transporting light with time. The dawn of the new millennium saw Timex win the coveted most loved brand title again, and further innovations in their watch manufacturing shone through. Recent developments have included watches able to measure speed and distance through GPS tracking and a unique watch with a 6th moving hand.
