Over 80 years and three generations of family have seen the Regatta brand through their rise in the outdoor fashion market. Chairman of the British brand, Lionel Black started off in the Seventies when he purchased a small waterproof clothing company. With an understanding of quality and fit he established the Regatta brand a decade later.
Keeping things in the family, Regatta remains based in Manchester, with Lionel’s son Keith and daughter Joanne taking on executive roles. It’s Joanne who is credited with giving
Regatta its recent stylish makeover. Whilst Regatta is renowned for its durable and practical outdoor wear, (especially for their advanced technology in water repellents,) it is also a major player when it comes to style.
As buying director, Joanne has helped remould Regatta into a brand people are proud to wear. Inspired by the runway, Joanne often looks to couture trends and adapts these as possible in Regatta’s clothing. Keen to move hiking wear away from the unfashionable reputation it had of past, Regatta keeps practicality paramount in its design ethos.
