The Nike story began with Blue Ribbon Sports, in 1964, founded by Phil Knight and legendary track coach Bill Bowerman to provide athletes with better shoes. In 1971 the company introduced the concept of the Greek winged Goddess of victory—Nike, developed the Swoosh logo sometime later and the rest is history. Over the years Nike has gone from strength to strength and echoes the sentiments of founder Bowerman ; ‘If you have a body, you are an athlete’

The brand has such strength as to be recognized the world over and has positioned itself as the fore runners of sportswear development. Nike has established a strong Brand Portfolio with several subsidiaries including Cole Haan, Converse Inc., Hurley International LLC, NIKE Golf, and Umbro Ltd, while still concentrating on pure sports driven product. The collaborations and sponsorships that Nike have under taken have strengthened and diversified the position and profile of the company, with sport stars, musicians and fashion designers all aligning their names with the famous swoosh.

Nike the company operates in more than 160 countries around the globe and through their suppliers; shippers and retailers directly or indirectly employ nearly one million people.
