Miu Miu – The brand
As the sister line to one of the biggest names in fashion; the almighty Prada, designer Miuccia Prada chose the name Miu Miu (which is also her nickname,) to bestow upon her secondary label.
Born in 1948 in hotspot Milan, Miuccia was the granddaughter of Mario Prada – founder of the Italian luxury company. Fashion was instilled in all of her surroundings. However Miuccia had not planned a career in the industry, she instead chose to study Political Science in university, earning herself a PhD. After meeting her husband, Miuccia took control of the company in 1978. What had initially started off as a business for fine leather accessories was about to expand to colossal strengths under Miuccia’s wing.

In 1985 Miuccia designed a range of elegant woven nylon handbags in black, bearing the famous Prada emblem. The bags were a hit, paraded around by models including the likes of Jerry Hall and Marie Helvin. Prada’s bags become coveted amongst the fashion circle, and soon bootleg versions were being sold. The imitation bags only enforced the demand for the real thing, hailing the beginnings of a global infatuation with ‘It bags’.
Later in the Eighties Miuccia went on to launch the first critically acclaimed ready to wear collection for Prada. The debut of Miu Miu followed in 1992. Said to be inspired by Miuccia’s personal wardrobe, Miu Miu aimed to be a more affordable line for a younger audience. Fashion’s elite quickly fell in love with Miu Miu’s quirky style, with famous faces for the brand having included Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst, Vanessa Paris and Katie Holmes.

Miu Miu – Classic styles
Miu Miu girls can’t be defined. Through their strong will to stand out from the pack, every Miu Miu style is different to all – the individuality of this brand is what pushes it to push boundaries. Playfully natured, sometimes a little rebellious, Miu Miu remains chic in every way.
Clean lines, mod inspired prints, flattering tunics and sensual silk dresses make up the Miu Miu wardrobe, all combined with a pair of Miu Miu’s sky scraping heels that scream wow factor. Tiny cropped boleros and jackets, thin tapered trousers and pleated schoolgirl skirts are all moulded for a youthful, girlish figure.
Presenting such hip ready to wear collections has made Miu Miu feel the pressure for equally up to par accessories. And they don’t fall short. Eyewear and fragrances are great sellers for the brand, with shoes and handbags by Miu Miu being in the highest demand.
Patent leather sandals with chunky heels in bold colours are a favourite, but it is Miu Miu’s It bags that have really helped the brand sell millions. Leather bags are glazed, gathered, patent and quilted. Popular styles include Miu Miu hobo bags, totes, clutches, wallets and shoulder bags. All feature the gold Miu Miu label against a classic neutral palette, which has become just as an iconic symbol as the Prada triangle.
High end Italian fashion doesn’t come more luxurious than this. With a clientele list including Kate Bosworth and Mischa Barton, fashionistas seeking the newest upcoming trends know where to go. Always in style, the visionary Miu Miu look doesn’t follow trends – it’s too busy creating them.
