Ed Hardy

All the glamour of rock ‘n’ roll can be found in Ed Hardy. Having such a distinct style, Ed Hardy takes inspiration from the world of tattoos and iconography. Expect plenty of skulls, crosses and lots of hearts.  Loved by the stars, inner rebellion is bursting through Ed Hardy’s colourful seams.

Ed Hardy – The Brand

A Californian native, Don Ed Hardy was born in 1945. Fascinated by tattoos from an early age, Hardy spent most of his young life honing his skills as a tattoo artist. He studied printmaking in San Francisco before moving to Japan to master his skills and learn more about Asian tattoo heritage. Upon moving back to the US, Hardy was considered a rarity in the tattoo industry, hailed as the ‘godfather of modern tattoo’.  Globally recognised for his technical skill coupled with his ability to produce stunning imagery, Hardy was being specially commissioned for his unique artistic gift.

Ed Hardy launched internationally as a fashion brand in 2004. Renowned fashion designer Christian Audigier was granted the rights to the designs of Don Ed Hardy and set about establishing the label. Having previously worked for brands like Von Dutch, Audigier was no stranger to the fashion world. Since its debut Ed Hardy has seen a popular cult following from rock fans to rock stars. Kanye West, Madonna and Britney Spears are just a few loyal Ed Hardy wearers. The late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s 2009 tour was famously planned to have Ed Hardy stage costumes, though sadly the tour never took place.

Today Ed Hardy continues drawing in a plethora of admirers. With its unparalleled edgy sense of style, Ed Hardy will not easily be replaced. Its broad appeal amongst celebrities may keep the brand on the cover of magazines, but the Ed Hardy look is definitely more than just a fleeting trend.

Ed Hardy – Classic Styles

Truly individualistic, there’s not another fashion label out there that can compare to Ed Hardy. The heavy influence of tattoo art and iconography are prevalent in all Ed Hardy styles, with Don Ed Hardy’s mesmerizing imagery hard to forget.

Trends like the trucker hat are often thought of as a fad made famous by the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Paris Hilton, but Ed Hardy’s caps are one of their most popular sellers. Speciality and rhinestone caps have extra zing that you won’t find anywhere else. Incorporating images of ferocious tigers, fierce skulls and slogan phrases, Ed Hardy’s hats are an instant recognisable symbol.

Recent trends for skull scarves also saw Ed Hardy raise their game. Ed’s graphic prints wound their way on fringed and silk scarf styles, being hugely popular in current seasons. Stunning sunglasses by Ed Hardy are equally eye catching. Tattoo print rims and crystal details make these glasses extremely bling, with a pair being named after the queen of bling herself; the Beyonce sunglasses.

Aside from a hugely popular accessories line, Ed Hardy’s fashion range manages to incorporate that signature Ed Hardy style into a collection of shirts, knits, hoodies, active wear, and outerwear for men, women and kids. Basic T shirts with bold imagery, long sleeved shirts with tattooed sleeves and zip up hoodies tend to be the brand’s top sellers.
And whilst you may associate Ed Hardy with urban casual wear, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find fun printed dress shirts, ties and pocket squares within this diverse range. When it comes to Ed Hardy, you should clearly expect the unexpected.
