Terra Plana the brand
In 2003, Galahad Clark, of the famed shoe family, facilitated the birth of this groundbreaking brand. His mission was to produce innovative, sustainable and above all desirable footwear that would set a precedent in the world of sustainable shoemaking. As a seventh generation Clark, Galahad learned the family trade as a young man, spending summer holidays on various production lines in Northampton and Italy where he honed his skills and developed his passion for shoes. Terra Plana has subsequently grown from a small UK Business into an Internationally acclaimed footwear brand, with wholesale and distribution all over the world.
Winner of the UK Drapers Footwear Retailer of the Year 2008 and The Observer Ethical Awards of the Year 2007, Terra Plana is quickly establishing itself as the leading eco footwear brand. The core Terra Plana brand combines an understanding of classic shoemaking with a cutting edge approach to modern techniques and materials. The Worn Again range uses completely recycled materials including old denim jeans, t-shirts, fireman’s trousers, coffee bags, ex-military jackets and parachutes. The Vivo Barefoot & Dopie styles are based on the concept that barefoot is best for our bodies and emulates the feel of wearing no shoes.
Reparability, lightness, anatomic design, and durability are all staples of sustainable shoe making that Terra Plana strives for. The company makes wide use of E-leather; a unique blend of leather and textile fibers that are ‘re-woven’ and finished so it is practically indistinguishable from good quality leather. As well as footwear Terra Plana also produces wallets and belts and always use recycled cardboard for their shoeboxes.
