Lee Cooper’s history in the world of denim dates back to the early 1900’s, where for the first few decades of the century denim was purely a fabric for workmen and labour workers. In 1908, Morris Cooper began a production company, opening a British factory which created work wear such as overalls for workmen. The company grew with time and secondary factories were opened around England, producing a greater variety of work wear, soon to include jeans.
It was not until the Forties, at the end of the war, that the Lee Cooper brand revolutionised jeans as a fashionable garment. Streamlined and slick finishes were popular at the time, with Lee Cooper ensuring their desirable products were being adequately advertised.
By the Fifties, screen icons like James Dean made jeans cool, and their popularity soared. Jeans were being worn leisurely, especially by young people. The press was quick to protest at the change in social uniform, but Lee Cooper and fellow denim brands prevailed.
Recent milestones for Lee Cooper have continued to come about in the past twenty years. The brand logo as we know it today was revamped in 1994, also seeing a style update to the production of Lee Cooper jeans at the same time. With an increasing eco aware culture, Lee Cooper introduced enzyme washes to their denim. Other pioneering types of denim included water resistant jeans and reversible jeans. Lee Cooper’s ability to adapt with fashion over the century makes them standout for their original and authentic European jeans.
Having created jeans for over 100 years has ensured Lee Cooper with a massive amount of different styles. As well as keeping some of their original bestselling styles, Lee Cooper jeans always adopt to the latest fashion trends, with flared cuts popular in the Nineties, and skinny fit jeans the current denim of choice.
Current mens and womens collections for Lee Cooper include; 100 Year, Red Diamond, Originals, Beatles, JCDC Denim and the Lou Doillon collection just for ladies. Lou Doillon is one of Lee Cooper’s best selling lines. Aside from jeans, this collection carries hoodies, t shirts, jackets and other youthful styles.
The 100 Year collection by Lee Cooper was introduced to celebrate the anniversary of the brand, offering limited edition jeans and t shirts for both men and women. The Red Diamond line features items named after famous musicians including Madonna bootcut jeans, AMOS sweater and Nirvana jacket, all a part of the women’s division line.
Originals by Lee Cooper include some the best selling male jeans styles, such as the LC118 straight leg jean. For the girls, the Brigitte33 straight leg and Lyvia 23 slim fit jeans are some of the most flattering trendy styles for the body.
Lee Cooper’s Beatles line is dedicated to the legendary band, featuring t shirts with images of the band, their logo and song lyrics. The Beatles t shirts make a great vintage look.
