Bobijou - The brand
The name Bobijou comes from the two French words ‘Beaux’ and ‘Bijoux’ which together mean ‘beautiful jewellery’. Founder of the brand Shan You is a keen world traveller, leading a multi-cultural lifestyle is a factor that pushed her ambition to succeed with an international business.
Coming from a strict but intellectual family, Shan You was encouraged to study for a degree which she completed, going on to work for one of the world’s largest consulting firms Accenture, in Paris. After five years with Accenture, Shan You left to follow her real passion of designing jewellery.
Her earliest memory of her complete dedication to fashion and jewellery comes at aged 10, where as a child Shan You would hand string beaded bracelets and necklaces as presents for her friends and family. Born with a natural ability to design, coupled with noting a gap in the jewellery market, Shan You decided to start her own company Bobijou.
Shan You’s philosophy for Bobijou was to create an ethical, affordable jewellery brand, using only genuine, handmade natural and precious materials. Bobijou is a brand well known to be taking a stance against child labour and forced labour, a common practice for many overseas jewellery workshops and pearl farms. To ensure the fairness of workers, and the authenticity of their products, Bobijou works directly with a number of trusted pearl farms in East China. These farms also work specifically with the goal to reduce human impact, protecting fresh water lakes and river eco-systems during their farming.
In turn Bobijou’s honest spirit provides genuinely luxurious products, which are a true pleasure to own.
Bobijou - Classic styles
Authentic catwalk style which is ethical and affordable at the same time, Bobijou’s much adored range of jewellery is full of charm. From pearls for first time wearers, to gorgeous gems and beautiful bridal jewels – there’s simple chic to full out sparkle for all.
Taking a twist on an old jewellery classic, Bobijou have reinvented the jewellery market by setting new industry standards with their exemplary method of pearl knotting. The patent pending method took nearly three years to get right, but the Bobijou team have mastered a method to increase the longevity of pearls to 8 years, from the standard 1 to 2. The pearl knotting process can take up to 4 hours, involving quadruple strands of Japanese silk and nylon being strung and knotted by hand. Bobijou’s Essentials collection features a range of earrings, bracelets and necklaces using this method.
Bobijou’s signature line, Multi Look, Multi Functional prioritises versatility without sacrificing style. This range is designed for those who like to get more out of their accessories. All of the high quality pieces can be worn in numerous ways - as necklaces, bracelets, or even belts. From the Multi Look, Multi Functional line, classics include: River Dance White Multi-Shaped Pearl Bracelet, Amazing Grace Silver Black Round Pearl Necklace, Monet’s Garden Triple Strand Necklace, Mother of Pearl Pendant, and the Night-blooming Cereus Silver Pearl Long Necklace.
Outside of this line, Bobijou collections still incorporate the brand’s trademark feel: elegant gem clusters, fine beads, and striking central decorations. As one of the UK’s leading pearl design jewellers, Bobijou is bound to be your first stop for trendy, chic jewellery.
